7.1.8. Wetlands<br />

Wetlands occur predominantly in a number of valley bottom systems that traverse the<br />

site in a north-south direction. In some of the upper parts of these valley bottom<br />

systems, the wetlands are thought to become hillslope seepage wetlands (on the<br />

footslopes and midslopes surrounding the valley bottoms). Wetlands occupy an area<br />

of 10,243ha, 47.6% of the total area of the study site. The spatial distribution of<br />

wetlands is indicated in Figure 7.9 below:<br />

7.1.9. Soils and Agricultural Potential<br />

7.1.9.1. Land type data<br />

The proposed study area falls into the Ea20, Ea22, Ea24 and Ca2 land types (refer<br />

to the land type map of the study area - Appendix F). A brief description of each of<br />

the land types that occur on the site is provided in Table 7.3.<br />
