Dear Colleagues
On the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the creation of the European
Heart Rhythm Association (EHRA) it is with great honour that I greet you
for this the sixth edition of our biennial Congress.
Welcome to EHRA EUROPACE 2013!
“To improve the quality of life of the European population by reducing the
impact of cardiac arrhythmias and reduce sudden cardiac death” – from this
simple mission statement 10 years ago EHRA has grown into an influential and globally recognised
reference in our community. Education is available in person or online, certification is widely
accessible, new opportunities abound with the Training Fellowships programme, knowledge is
freely available through the website and The EHRA White Book, original work and reviews are
published in the EP Europace journal and targeted projects are launched; the tireless work of EHRA
volunteers and our industry partners means that all of this, and more, is available now before the
association has become a teenager.
Nowhere is the desire and drive of our community better shown than at our EHRA EUROPACE
Congresses and for us to be able to bring our young association’s Congress to Athens; one of the
oldest cities in the world and widely referred to as the cradle of Western civilisation, must surely
act to further motivate and refocus us in our common goal.
For this year’s Congress I am delighted that we have been joined by the ESC Working Group on
Cardiac Cellular Electrophysiology and the ESC Working Group on e-Cardiology, highlighting the
multidisciplinary and translational approach in modern electrophysiology and also consolidating our
work in providing united sessions with contributors from different continents, societies and now
sub-specialties. Prof Andreas Götte, Prof John Morgan and the Scientific Programme Committee
have put together an outstanding line-up for us, with summits on Lead Management and Genetics,
the latest guidelines and research, insights direct from the Cath lab and hard learned wisdom from
world renowned faculty.
Thank you for being with us in Athens and I fully hope that this Congress offers you the chance to
DISCOVER something or someone new, better TRANSLATE the information available, take away
the best PRACTICE and ultimately TRANSFORM the future of our patients.
I wish you all an excellent and rewarding Congress.
