Pathophysiological insights provided by EUTRAF: Progressive electrical
uncoupling as determinant of AF chronification
Chairpersons: A.J. Camm (london, Gb); s. Hatem (Paris, fR)
basic science
This session focuses on translational aspects of electrical uncoupling between muscle bundles providing
the basis for conduction block and enhanced dissociation of electrical dissociation in the atria. Myocytefibroblast
interactions have attracted a lot of attention in recent years as did the heterogeneity of the
electrophysiological properties of atrial myocytes. This symposium will not only discuss the molecular
mechanisms of altered fibroblast behavior and fibroblast-myocyte interactions but will also aim at
translation of these findings to the organ-level and patients using non-invasive imaging techniques.
08:30 Profibrotic and prohypertrophic signalling in atrial fibrillation 1331
A. Goette (Paderborn, DE)
08:52 ROS signalling in atrial fibrillation 1332
S.N. Reilly (Oxford, GB)
09:15 Channel trafficking and cell-cell coupling in atrial fibrillation. 1333
S. Hatem (Paris, FR)
09:37 Towards a classification of atrial fibrillation based on the electrophysiological phenotype. 1334
U. Schotten (Maastricht, NL)
