(Revelation 3:14-22) Finally, a hunger for practical holiness in individual lives and the powerful presence of God in prayer and worship was replaced by a contentment with an attractively packaged lip service to the truth that fed the organization, but starved the organism. Tares, not converts, were added to their army, reducing the overall effectiveness of their spiritual warfare. Non-compromising members were labeled inappropriately and discarded unless they integrated. True messages were rejected and true messengers identified and shot for being a financial curse on the church. Little did they realize that the same spirit leading them to subtly persecute their fellow professing brothers and sisters in Christ would someday soon lead some of them to turn these same members over to legal authorities for their unwillingness to align themselves with the superpower’s public policy. Then shall they deliver you up to be afflicted, and shall kill you: and ye shall be hated of all nations for my name’s sake.
