F871 This project provides educational services to incarcerated youth based on a<br />
program plan approved by <strong>the</strong> State Education Department.<br />
F898 This project, located in <strong>the</strong> <strong>Suffolk</strong> County Correctional facilities in Yaphank and<br />
Riverhead, builds skills in four areas: Basic Business Education, Carpentry,<br />
Drafting/CAD Occupations and Small Business-Entrepreneurship. Skills are<br />
developed in a traditional classroom setting through <strong>the</strong> development <strong>of</strong> curricula<br />
that aligns <strong>the</strong> New York State Content Learning Standards in <strong>the</strong> subject areas<br />
with <strong>the</strong> Career Development and Occupational Studies (CDOS) standards.<br />
Students engage in applied practice in <strong>the</strong> correctional facilities, enabling <strong>the</strong>m to<br />
apply <strong>the</strong> knowledge under <strong>the</strong> supervision <strong>of</strong> a highly qualified teacher/master<br />
tradesperson. Teachers will engage in joint planning and curriculum development<br />
and weekly collegial circles so that current research is tied to practice and <strong>the</strong><br />
students’ learning experiences are relevant, integrated and aligned with NYC<br />
Content Learning Standards and <strong>the</strong> CDOS Standards.<br />

five non-public schools. Through this grant, approximately 168 participating high<br />
school teachers will receive innovative literacy- based pr<strong>of</strong>essional development,<br />
enhancing <strong>the</strong> teaching and learning process.<br />
A525 Student Assistance Services facilitates <strong>the</strong> process <strong>of</strong> prevention in order to create<br />
conditions that promote <strong>the</strong> well-being <strong>of</strong> people within <strong>the</strong> school community.<br />
Emphasis is placed on group work that enhances a caring and supportive<br />
atmosphere, encourages high expectations and fosters a sense <strong>of</strong> belonging.<br />

homelessness so that <strong>the</strong>y may attend school and receive <strong>the</strong> educational services<br />
to which <strong>the</strong>y are entitled. It also provides technical assistance and training to<br />
school <strong>districts</strong>, shelter providers and o<strong>the</strong>r agencies. A portion <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> funding<br />
supports <strong>the</strong> MOPCHP, providing <strong>the</strong> nationally acclaimed Parent-Child Home<br />
Program to preschool children and <strong>the</strong>ir families residing in temporary housing as<br />
well as homework help to <strong>the</strong> elementary age children.<br />
F832 This program provides <strong>the</strong> nationally acclaimed family literacy Parent-Child Home<br />
Program to families residing in temporary housing. It is designed to stimulate <strong>the</strong><br />
F806 development <strong>of</strong> educationally at-risk preschool children in low income families.<br />
Trained home visitors demonstrate to parent/caregivers how to talk and read to<br />
<strong>the</strong>ir two and three year old children, using developmentally appropriate books and<br />

F831 Funds provide a variety <strong>of</strong> educational support services to migrant-eligible students<br />
via in-school, extended day, and in-home tutoring to preschool through grade 12<br />
and/or up to 21 yrs. <strong>of</strong> age. We provide a strong link between <strong>the</strong> family and<br />
school. Migrant eligible children are also <strong>of</strong>fered a variety <strong>of</strong> motivational,<br />
educational services such as educational adolescent summer programs in upstate<br />
NY that provide Immersion ESL, assistance in studying for summer regents exams<br />
and week-long summer camps;, summer tutoring, field trips and counseling.<br />
F833 This project provides <strong>the</strong> Even Start Family Literacy Program to several migranteligible<br />
families in <strong>Eastern</strong> <strong>Suffolk</strong> County. Services consist <strong>of</strong> family literacy, preschool<br />
education, parenting, and parent literacy. The Family Educator works with<br />
<strong>the</strong> family in <strong>the</strong>ir home on <strong>the</strong> four program components<br />
