F810 Created to address <strong>the</strong> shortage <strong>of</strong> certified bilingual and English as Second<br />

Language (ESL) teachers in New York State, <strong>the</strong> ITI-BE works in partnership with<br />

NYS institutions <strong>of</strong> higher education (IHEs) in <strong>of</strong>fering specialization courses,<br />

facilitating <strong>the</strong> certification process in ESL and bilingual education, and providing<br />

tuition assistance to educators working in NYS public school <strong>districts</strong>. A special<br />

feature is <strong>the</strong> collaborative effort with designated institutions <strong>of</strong> IHEs to implement<br />

recruitment strategies <strong>of</strong> prospective bilingual and ESL teachers at <strong>the</strong><br />

undergraduate level.<br />

F858 The NYS <strong>Suffolk</strong> BETAC at ES<strong>BOCES</strong> provides technical assistance, staff<br />

development, and o<strong>the</strong>r services to all <strong>districts</strong> in <strong>Suffolk</strong> County related to <strong>the</strong><br />

education <strong>of</strong> limited English pr<strong>of</strong>icient/English language learners (LEP/ELLs). The<br />

NYS <strong>Suffolk</strong> BETAC provides <strong>the</strong>se services to all 69 <strong>Suffolk</strong> County <strong>districts</strong> in <strong>the</strong><br />

townships <strong>of</strong> Babylon, Brookhaven, East Hampton, Huntington, Islip, Riverhead,<br />

Shelter Island, Smithtown, Southampton and Southold. The BETAC also works<br />

collaboratively with <strong>the</strong> Long Island Regional Strategic Partner Network (LIRSPN)<br />

in providing specialized technical assistance, program consultation services, and<br />

individualized pr<strong>of</strong>essional development opportunities for those <strong>Suffolk</strong> County<br />

<strong>districts</strong> and schools targeted by NYSED as needing intensive intervention to<br />

improve <strong>the</strong>ir educational programs and services.<br />

F854 Created to address <strong>the</strong> shortage <strong>of</strong> certified bilingual and English as a Second<br />

Language (ESL) special education, speech and hearing handicapped teachers in<br />

NYS. The Intensive Teacher Institute in Bilingual Special Education (ITI-BSE)<br />

works in partnership with NYS institutions <strong>of</strong> higher education (IHEs) in <strong>of</strong>fering<br />

specialization courses, facilitating <strong>the</strong> certification process, and providing tuition<br />

assistance to educators working in NYS approved preschool bilingual special<br />

education programs as well as to those working in <strong>the</strong> K-12 grade continuum. The<br />

ITI-BSE also assists bilingual pupil personnel pr<strong>of</strong>essionals who work with limited<br />

English pr<strong>of</strong>icient/English language learners (LEP/ELLs) who are receiving special<br />

education services. The ITI-BSE also provides tuition assistance in a career ladder<br />

program in approved IHEs to bilingual special education teacher assistants.<br />

F876 The Title III consortium was created to assist <strong>the</strong> English as a Second Language<br />

(ESL) programs in component <strong>districts</strong> in <strong>Suffolk</strong> County through <strong>the</strong> incorporation<br />

<strong>of</strong> computer technology and technological applications in order to improve <strong>the</strong><br />

instruction <strong>of</strong> LEP students in grades K-12. The instructional component <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

Title III Consortium is based on a partnership with <strong>the</strong> Model Schools programs <strong>of</strong><br />

both <strong>Eastern</strong> and Western <strong>Suffolk</strong> <strong>BOCES</strong>. Title III, Part A funds are utilized to<br />

meet, supplement, and accelerate <strong>the</strong> CR Part 154 language requirements for free<br />

standing ESL programs by incorporating ESL learning standards and strategies<br />

through <strong>the</strong> use <strong>of</strong> instructional technology.<br />

processes and to improve <strong>the</strong>ir achievement in critical 21st Century Skills, art, and<br />

core academic areas. To reform school planning in order to better integrate<br />

essential 21st Century Skills across <strong>the</strong> curriculum. To share <strong>the</strong> tools and lessons<br />

learned through <strong>the</strong> project with NYS and <strong>the</strong> larger education community.<br />

program.<br />

F821 VESID funds provide for supported employment services to students and adults<br />

with severe disabilities. Job development and intensive job coaching is <strong>the</strong> central<br />

element to supported employment, which provides <strong>the</strong> necessary support for<br />

individuals to succeed in competitive employment.<br />

F815 Perkins IV Title I grant (formally know as VATEA) provides funding to <strong>the</strong> <strong>Eastern</strong><br />

<strong>Suffolk</strong> <strong>BOCES</strong>/School District consortium toward <strong>the</strong> improvement <strong>of</strong> Career and<br />

Technical Education programs. The grant funds are utilized to purchase supplies<br />

and equipment, stay current with industry practices, and provide staff and<br />

curriculum development to enhance student success in career and technical<br />

education programs.<br />

F871 This project provides educational services to incarcerated youth based on a<br />

program plan approved by <strong>the</strong> State Education Department.<br />

F898 This project, located in <strong>the</strong> <strong>Suffolk</strong> County Correctional facilities in Yaphank and<br />

Riverhead, builds skills in four areas: Basic Business Education, Carpentry,<br />

Drafting/CAD Occupations and Small Business-Entrepreneurship. Skills are<br />

developed in a traditional classroom setting through <strong>the</strong> development <strong>of</strong> curricula<br />

that aligns <strong>the</strong> New York State Content Learning Standards in <strong>the</strong> subject areas<br />

with <strong>the</strong> Career Development and Occupational Studies (CDOS) standards.<br />

Students engage in applied practice in <strong>the</strong> correctional facilities, enabling <strong>the</strong>m to<br />

apply <strong>the</strong> knowledge under <strong>the</strong> supervision <strong>of</strong> a highly qualified teacher/master<br />

tradesperson. Teachers will engage in joint planning and curriculum development<br />

and weekly collegial circles so that current research is tied to practice and <strong>the</strong><br />

students’ learning experiences are relevant, integrated and aligned with NYC<br />

Content Learning Standards and <strong>the</strong> CDOS Standards.<br />

A525 Student Assistance Services facilitates <strong>the</strong> process <strong>of</strong> prevention in order to create<br />

conditions that promote <strong>the</strong> well-being <strong>of</strong> people within <strong>the</strong> school community.<br />

Emphasis is placed on group work that enhances a caring and supportive<br />

atmosphere, encourages high expectations and fosters a sense <strong>of</strong> belonging.<br />

Students are assisted by staff in identifying and mobilizing positive resources<br />

This is <strong>the</strong> final year <strong>of</strong> a four year agreement between <strong>Suffolk</strong> County, State <strong>of</strong><br />

New York Department <strong>of</strong> Health, and <strong>Eastern</strong> <strong>Suffolk</strong> <strong>BOCES</strong> (ESB) which<br />

continues <strong>the</strong> services <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> contractor (ESB) from January 1, 2008 through<br />

December 31, 2011. Technical services included in this agreement include K-12<br />

Prevention Program Curriculum Development, Training Module Development,<br />

Youth Empowerment Activities and Program Implementation.<br />

$1,057,411 USDOE F814 The Early Reading First program supports <strong>the</strong> development <strong>of</strong> early childhood<br />

centers <strong>of</strong> excellence that focus on all areas <strong>of</strong> development, especially on <strong>the</strong><br />

early language, cognitive, and pre-reading skills that prepare children for continued<br />

school success and that serve primarily children from low-income families.<br />

$175,000 NYSED F834 The NYS Resource Center will continue to provide assistance to those Long Island<br />

schools/<strong>districts</strong> identified as needing special support via <strong>the</strong> following conduits:<br />

Title llA, IDEA BASE Allocation/Math Initiative/Supplement, NYS Reading<br />

Resource Center. Regional technical assistance is provided and pr<strong>of</strong>essional<br />

encourage reading and literacy activites in <strong>the</strong> homes <strong>of</strong> Hispanic/Latino families<br />

F842 Transforms <strong>the</strong> SETRC existing networks/supports to a much broader constituency<br />

throughout Long Island. ES<strong>BOCES</strong>/Dr. Valerie Valenti will oversee, manage, and<br />

coordinate <strong>the</strong> Long Island RSE-TASC, which will provide regional and targeted<br />

technical assistance to Nassau and <strong>Suffolk</strong> school <strong>districts</strong> determined by VESID<br />

to be “at risk’, “in need <strong>of</strong> assistance”, or “in need <strong>of</strong> intervention”.<br />

F864 Assists VESID in meeting <strong>the</strong> outcomes for students with disabilities through a<br />

regional program <strong>of</strong> pr<strong>of</strong>essional development, training, information dissemination<br />

and technical assistance. Research-based instructional and behavioral practices<br />

are directed to those school <strong>districts</strong> determined by VESID to be at risk <strong>of</strong> or<br />

needing assistance to improve results for students with disabilities and to meet<br />

targets for improvement as identified by NYS.<br />

F--- This program provides advocacy services to <strong>Suffolk</strong> County students affected by<br />

homelessness so that <strong>the</strong>y may attend school and receive <strong>the</strong> educational services<br />

to which <strong>the</strong>y are entitled. It also provides technical assistance and training to<br />

school <strong>districts</strong>, shelter providers and o<strong>the</strong>r agencies. A portion <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> funding<br />

supports <strong>the</strong> MOPCHP, providing <strong>the</strong> nationally acclaimed Parent-Child Home<br />

Program to preschool children and <strong>the</strong>ir families residing in temporary housing as<br />

well as homework help to <strong>the</strong> elementary age children.<br />

F832 This program provides <strong>the</strong> nationally acclaimed family literacy Parent-Child Home<br />

Program to families residing in temporary housing. It is designed to stimulate <strong>the</strong><br />

F806 development <strong>of</strong> educationally at-risk preschool children in low income families.<br />

Trained home visitors demonstrate to parent/caregivers how to talk and read to<br />

<strong>the</strong>ir two and three year old children, using developmentally appropriate books and<br />

F839 toys. This family literacy program is home-based and works with each child for two<br />

years preparing <strong>the</strong>m to enter pre-school at age four.<br />

F831 Funds provide a variety <strong>of</strong> educational support services to migrant-eligible students<br />

via in-school, extended day, and in-home tutoring to preschool through grade 12<br />

and/or up to 21 yrs. <strong>of</strong> age. We provide a strong link between <strong>the</strong> family and<br />

school. Migrant eligible children are also <strong>of</strong>fered a variety <strong>of</strong> motivational,<br />

educational services such as educational adolescent summer programs in upstate<br />

NY that provide Immersion ESL, assistance in studying for summer regents exams<br />

and week-long summer camps;, summer tutoring, field trips and counseling.<br />

F833 This project provides <strong>the</strong> Even Start Family Literacy Program to several migranteligible<br />

families in <strong>Eastern</strong> <strong>Suffolk</strong> County. Services consist <strong>of</strong> family literacy, preschool<br />

education, parenting, and parent literacy. The Family Educator works with<br />

<strong>the</strong> family in <strong>the</strong>ir home on <strong>the</strong> four program components<br />

F809 This project provides additional student services to migrant-eligible students,<br />

necessary as a result from <strong>the</strong>ir homeless situation.<br />

F887 The purpose <strong>of</strong> this grant is to assist school <strong>districts</strong> in <strong>the</strong> Medicaid-claiming<br />
