Pemex oozes Mexican
corruption
Funds belonging to the Mexican state
oil monopoly, Pemex, have paid in recent
years for liposuction treatment for
the wife of the company’s chief executive,
a presidential candidate’s campaign,
contracts with firms facing legal
action and the whims of trade union
leaders who are not required to account
for their expenses
“Pemex is a can of worms. If you do something
right, they come after you. If you shut
up about some irregularity, they reward
you and if you take part in the corruption,
you profit,” a Pemex worker expressed. “I’m
not saying everything is like that – there
are also honest people,“ added the worker,
whose name is withheld for his safety. The
employee said that after he replaced several
worn-out parts of a gas valve, a group of
internal auditors criticised his work, saying
they had found “too many foreign parts”
and ordered him to put the originals back
in place. He said that when his boss protested,
he was accused of a bias in favour
of a private supplier and an investigation
against him was launched.
Employees hand back
fleet cars in the UK
Crippling tax liabilities on employees
with company cars is now so severe
that many are handing them back and
buying their own
The switch means that the supply of one or
two-year-old company cars into the secondhand
market is drying up and families who
depend upon them as second-hand bargains
are being priced out of the market. These
include family models such as the Ford
Mondeo, Vauxhall Vectra and versatile
hatchbacks like Peugeot 308 SW. The tax
liability on the privilege of having not only
a company car but also the fuel it uses,
means that many employees now consider
themselves to be worse off than if they just
bought their own.
PdAM in Malaysia wants government to freeze
all approvals for new petrol stations
The Petrol dealers Association of Malaysia has said that the government should
immediately stop issuing approvals to oil companies for new petrol stations
reduce fuel subsidy and curb profiteering.
to the consumers to encourage them
to buy more fuel. This encourages wastages
and unimportant fuel purchases. The end
JET – European Commission phase 2 review
The European Commission has announced that it has opened a detailed Phase
to resolve any competition concerns and to
close this transaction as soon as is possible. A
detailed review normally lasts up to 90 working
days. “Whilst we of course would have
wanted a faster process, when it comes to this
type of business transaction, it is not unusual
that it goes into a Phase 2 process. We will
Azerbaijan considers
setting up a filling station
effect is that the oil companies fuel sales
volume goes up and the government pays a
higher fuel subsidy.” The association has also
from offering incentives to consumers to
