electric mobility
in Italy
ENI, a leading energy company in Italy and
the Renault-Nissan Alliance have signed
a memorandum of cooperation for electric
mobility in Italy. This agreement makes
provision for joint studies on electric vehicles,
with particular emphasis on the role of service
stations in charging activities, along with
the joint development of market offerings,
the “instant” charging system developed by
Renault, and the business model promoting
charging-related activities.
Riversimple hydrogen
car trials
A UK based eco-car company ‘Riversimple’ has
said it will run a 12 month trial of hydrogenpowered
cars towards the end of 2012. The
company said it was sourcing funding to set
up a £ 20 million plant for production of the
two-seater cars, which do the equivalent of
300 miles per gallon. The cars would cost
drivers about £ 250 per month, including fuel.
The vehicles, made of lightweight composites,
have a maximum speed of 50 mph and a range
of more than 200 miles.
ecotricity charges up
‘electric superhighway’
Ecotricity has installed the first six electric
car charging points at motorway service stations
in the UK, allowing drivers to travel
without worrying about running low on charge.
Each of the charge points is powered by the
company’s wind turbines and solar facilities,
Drivers can choose a rapid recharge point
with a 32A supply that can top-up in just 20
minutes and fully charge in two hours, or a
slower 13A supply which fully recharges a car
while travellers stay overnight at motorway
service hotels.
dublin’s clerys embraces electric car charging
The world’s oldest department store (Clerys)
in Dublin City has yet again reinvented itself
to embrace a new electric car era. ESB ecars,
a division of ESB Electric Ireland, has just
installed e-car charging points in the shopping
emporium’s car park, Q-Park. Best of
Beijing build 42 000 ev charging points
China’s drivers have accepted electric cars
wholeheartedly but as unit sales rise, so have
worries about the infrastructure required to
support a fossil-fuel-free driving lifestyle.
City planners estimate the number of electric
vehicles registered in Beijing will hit 100 000
by 2015. That’s a lot of plugs looking for
outlets! Currently electric car drivers can
sedans powered with biomethane have been
presented for the chauffeur-driven service of
members of Germany’s parliament (Bundestag),
executed by service-providerRocVin Services
India is on the move with air powered cars
India’s largest automaker, Tata Motors, is set
to start producing the world's first commercial
air-powered vehicle. The Air Car, developed
by ex-Formula One engineer Guy N. for
Luxembourg-based MDI, uses compressed
air to push its engine's pistons. Some 6 000
their cars while out shopping, won’t have
to pay for the service. The charge points
are part of the ESB charging infrastructure
network which is being rolled out in retail
parks, service stations as well as on-street
and off-street car parks and in the homes of
increase the availability of charging points,
however, with a set goal of 256 charging stations,
Martin Burkert, a member of the German
Bundestag SPD Group on the Committee on
Transport, Building and Urban Development,
explained “We are committed to continuing
the incentives provided for natural gas fuel,
even continuing the tax provisions for natural
gas after 2018.”
waste materials to be a source of energy with
great future potential in the mobility sector, it
chose the biofuel as the winner in this category.
Verbiogas is produced without foodstuffs of any
kind and emits 90 percent less CO 2 than petrol.
zero-emissions Air Cars are scheduled to
hit Indian streets. The Air Car, called the
“MiniCAT” could cost around Rs 3 475 225
(US $ 8 177) in India and would have a range
of around 300 km between refuels. The cost
of a refill would be about Rs 85 (US $ 2).
