ENI, a leading energy company in Italy and
the Renault-Nissan Alliance have signed
a memorandum of cooperation for electric
mobility in Italy. This agreement makes
provision for joint studies on electric vehicles,
with particular emphasis on the role of service
stations in charging activities, along with
the joint development of market offerings,
the “instant” charging system developed by
Renault, and the business model promoting
charging-related activities.
Riversimple hydrogen
car trials
A UK based eco-car company ‘Riversimple’ has
said it will run a 12 month trial of hydrogenpowered
cars towards the end of 2012. The
company said it was sourcing funding to set
up a £ 20 million plant for production of the
two-seater cars, which do the equivalent of
300 miles per gallon. The cars would cost
drivers about £ 250 per month, including fuel.
The vehicles, made of lightweight composites,
have a maximum speed of 50 mph and a range
of more than 200 miles.

Ecotricity has installed the first six electric
car charging points at motorway service stations
in the UK, allowing drivers to travel
without worrying about running low on charge.
Each of the charge points is powered by the
company’s wind turbines and solar facilities,
Drivers can choose a rapid recharge point
with a 32A supply that can top-up in just 20
minutes and fully charge in two hours, or a
slower 13A supply which fully recharges a car
while travellers stay overnight at motorway
service hotels.
