TOKHeIM 18 Tokheim looking to the future Last month, an important announcement by dispenser systems and service provider Tokheim, outlining its intention to fund future growth by acquiring new shareholders and new investments, focussed eyes yet again on one of the industry’s most colourful companies. Having enjoyed significant european growth in recent years, particularly through its acquisition programme of service sector related companies, this initiative will be completed by the end of the year, says Tokheim president Patrick Berthon. The following, previously un-scheduled, article should serve as a timely reminder of just how far the company has come since its management buyout of 2003, a period which has seen turnover increase from 329 to over 600 million euros. In the official statement, released on September 23rd this year, Patrick Berthon says “The current economic conditions are slowing down the growth of all countries in the Western world and consequently the stock market is anticipating lower results for most, if not all, companies. However, it seems that globally, most companies continue to have reasonably good results and we can expect a progressive recovery, even if it will take time. In this context, Tokheim has proven itself to be a very resilient company, thanks to a sound and solid strategy, the high dedication of all its employees, continued success in improving quality, full focus and care of HSSE matters and extending the portfolio of products and services for the satisfaction of its customers. As a result, Sales and Profit in Tokheim continue to grow steadily”. With Baudouin de la Tour, recently appointed CEO, the go ahead style of Tokheim, now directly present in 30 countries, comes very much through its senior management and the people who have steadily grown the business over the last 10 years. Directors, Bill Arundel and Kurt Dillen, between them, have established enormous amounts of goodwill in a market where dynamic individuals will always stand out. But what about the products themselves, the service companies they now operate and the overall contribution Tokheim makes to the industry? An update on current Tokheim activities and a trip around Tokheims many territories follows, much of which is sourced through Group Marketing Communication Manager, David MacHale aided by Tokheim’s most recent customer newsletter. Bill Arundel, Group Sales & Marketing Director Most importantly of late, is news that Tokheim’s Dundee Manufacturing Centre (DMC) has attained the internationally recognised environmental management standard, ISO 14001. He said, “We successfully implemented all the ISO requirements and attained the prestigious 14001 standard within six months. This shows the huge commitment of everyone involved and their drive to succeed.” Achievements for Tokheim in the field of HSSE, have come recently through the Spanish Government, for what it states in its official magazine as tireless work in health, safety and environmental strategies. The award given to Tokheim Koppens Ibérica, it says, acknowledges Tokheim’s high level of training and awareness campaigns and outstanding results in the market. Elsewhere, Tokheim UK recently announced that it has passed recent HSSE audits with TOTAL and Concoco Phillips. The audit with TOTAL resulted in a combined overall score of 96 percent. Mark Husband, HSSE Manager Tokheim UK, says, “This brings to a close a very good year for HSSE auditing in the UK sales and service division with successful audits from many different major oil companies and external auditing bodies.” Tokheim France has responded to demanding environmental regulations imposed by the French authorities, by creating an Environ-

Service is the key to Tokheim’s ‘One Stop Shop’ strategy Payment terminal number 3000 at a site in De Rijp, Nederlands ment Engineering sub-department in its Construction department, ‘DTCE’. “The goal is to offer customers an environmental support service throughout the whole process of designing the service station, from the study phase to delivery,” says Ramzi Ouarghi, HQE Engineer, Tokheim France. An Environmental Action Plan has been developed by Tokheim according to the recommendations of ADEME – French Agency for Environment and Energy Management. This plan defines the conditions of works, the description of services to be provided, and the duties of all the various subcontractors in order to limit the negative impact that can be generated by the works on site in relation to the environment. Tokheim has already started projects, utilising the plan, such as the construction of a TOTAL service station on the French Ambrussum (A9) motorway rest area. This site, they say, was designed and built with minimal impact on the environment under the principles of High Quality Environmental (HQE) standard. Retail solutions – electronic funds transfer, outdoor payment, host comms, remote services, QSR, POS, forecourt control This year, Tokheim has also launched a range of products and services specifically tailored for the commercial fleet market. DiaLOG installations are now dotted across hundreds of Kurt Dillen , VP – General Manager locations throughout Europe and Africa. Remco Rengers, Business Development Manager Commercial Fleet, commented, “Each installation requires the system to be translated into the local language and we now have the product Tokheim’s Quantium 510 fuel dispenser LATeST NewS, eveNTS, jOBS ONLINe – www.PeTROLPLAzA.cOM Dundee Manufacturing Centre, attaining environmental standard ISO 14001 in 15 languages.” Remko adds that he expects the number to be at 20 shortly. In the Netherlands, Tokheim Benelux has installed a Crypto VGA outdoor payment terminal on a Brand Oil site in De Rijp, bringing the number installed in the region to over 3 000. All payment terminals in the Netherlands are required to be EMV, commonly known as ‘chip and pin’, compliant before the end of 2011. Just a few snippets of news, which demonstrate Tokheim’s range and depth of services, complementing its better-known business of manufacturing dispensers. It is certainly an exciting time for Tokheim and we look forward to announcing the next step in the company’s 112 year history, in the next issue of erpecnews!
