NewS – eUROPe 10 NFc-based mobile payments system Russian mobile operator MTS has launched an instant mobile payments system based on Near Field Communications (NFC) technology. The service will allow users to pay for fuel in petrol stations of Russian company Lukoil using handsets with special Sims and NFC antennas. SOcAR to acquire network The State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) is expanding operations in fuel retail in Western Europe with a yet unannounced acquisition in Switzerland. SOCAR president Rovnag Abdullayev has stated that SOCAR is preparing to buy a large network of fuel service stations in Switzerland. “Negotiations are on-going and in the near future the acquisition will be announced”, he said. The deal sees DCC purchasing the entire share capital of Pace, which operated from 19 locations across southern England. Pace sold 455 million litres of fuel in the 12 months to September 2010, and boasts a fleet of 83 road tankers and 201 employees.
