NFc-based mobile
payments system
Russian mobile operator MTS has launched
an instant mobile payments system based
on Near Field Communications (NFC)
technology. The service will allow users
to pay for fuel in petrol stations of Russian
company Lukoil using handsets with
special Sims and NFC antennas. The
cost of the package enabling access to
the service is around RUB 200 (US $ 53)
per month.
SOcAR to acquire
network
The State Oil Company of Azerbaijan
(SOCAR) is expanding operations in
fuel retail in Western Europe with a yet
unannounced acquisition in Switzerland.
SOCAR president Rovnag Abdullayev has
stated that SOCAR is preparing to buy a
large network of fuel service stations in
Switzerland. “Negotiations are on-going
and in the near future the acquisition
will be announced”, he said. As negotiations
were incomplete, he was unable to
give any further details. In recent years
SOCAR has expanded its operations
outside Azerbaijan. The first international
expansion took place in Georgia and
Ukraine which was followed by Romania.
Switzerland will represent a significant step
on the international market place. The
fuel retail network target of SOCAR is
currently 100 in Georgia, 300 in Romania
and 1 000 in Ukraine.
dcc complete Pace
Fuelcare acquisition
Irish firm DCC has completed its acquisition
of the UK-based Pace Fuelcare,
having received approval from the Office
of Fair Trading (OFT) for the tranaction.
The deal sees DCC purchasing the entire
share capital of Pace, which operated from
19 locations across southern England.
Pace sold 455 million litres of fuel in
the 12 months to September 2010, and
boasts a fleet of 83 road tankers and
201 employees. Following consultations
with the OFT, DCC agreed that MRH
would retain Pace’s Isle of Wight business,
worth approximately 10 percent
of the company’s overall volumes. The
revised deal is worth a total fee of 23
million euro.

TOTAL is giving a new dynamic to its strategy
for developing industrial and commercial activities
in its refining, marketing and chemicals
operations. This shall be accomplished through
a reorganization that will create two new
