terminus a quo being menti<strong>on</strong>ed in the first clause, and the terminus ad quem (though<br />
without the prepositi<strong>on</strong> `ad (OT:5704)) in the sec<strong>on</strong>d; and through the parallelism<br />
which exists between the clauses, each clause is left to be completed from the other.<br />
So that the whole sentence would read thus: "All these nati<strong>on</strong>s which remain...from<br />
Jordan to the great sea, also all the nati<strong>on</strong>s which I have cut off from Jordan, and<br />
to the great sea westward."<br />

And the LORD your God, he shall expel them from before you, and drive them<br />
from out of your sight; and ye shall possess their land, as the LORD your God hath<br />
promised unto you.<br />
For the Lord would drive all these still remaining nati<strong>on</strong>s before the Israelites, and cut<br />
them off, and give the Israelites their land for a possessi<strong>on</strong>, as He had promised (Josh<br />
13:6; cf. Ex 23:23ff.). haadap (OT:1920), as in Deut 6:19; 9:4; and the form<br />
yehªdaapeem (OT:1920), with Chateph-kametz , <strong>on</strong> account of the weakness of the h<br />
, as in Num 35:20. yªrishªtem (OT:3423), as in Josh 1:15.<br />
<strong>Joshua</strong> 23:6-8<br />
Be ye therefore very courageous to keep and to do all that is written in the book of<br />
the law of Moses, that ye turn not aside therefrom to the right hand or to the left;<br />
Only let them be str<strong>on</strong>g, i.e., be brave, to keep the law of Moses without fail (cf. Josh<br />
1:7), to enter into no fellowship with these remaining nati<strong>on</strong>s ( bow' (OT:935), to<br />
enter into close intimacy with a pers<strong>on</strong>; see v. 12), and not to pay reverence to their<br />
gods in any way, but to adhere stedfastly to the Lord their God as they had hitherto<br />
d<strong>on</strong>e. To make menti<strong>on</strong> of the names of the idols (Ex 23:13), to swear by them, to<br />
serve them (by sacrifices), and to bow down to them (to invoke them in prayer), are<br />
