And ye have seen all that the LORD your God hath d<strong>on</strong>e unto all these nati<strong>on</strong>s<br />

because of you; for the LORD your God is he that hath fought for you.<br />

Behold, I have divided unto you by lot these nati<strong>on</strong>s that remain, to be an<br />

inheritance for your tribes, from Jordan, with all the nati<strong>on</strong>s that I have cut off,<br />

even unto the great sea westward.<br />

He (<strong>Joshua</strong>) had now divided by lot am<strong>on</strong>g the tribes of Israel as their inheritance<br />

these still remaining (Canaanitish) nati<strong>on</strong>s, as the Lord had commanded (Josh 13:6-<br />

7), "from Jordan and further all the nati<strong>on</strong>s, which I have exterminated (i.e., which<br />

<strong>Joshua</strong> had destroyed when Canaan was taken), and the great sea (for 'to the great<br />

sea') in the west." The breadth of the land of Canaan is here given in a peculiar<br />
