make them desist from the worship of Jehovah (for the infinitive form yªro'<br />
(OT:3372) instead of the abbreviated form leero' (OT:3372) used in 1 Sam 18:29,<br />
there are analogies in yªtsoq (OT:3332) in Ezek 24:3, and liyshown (OT:3462), Eccl<br />
5:11, whereas yirª'aah (OT:3374) is the <strong>on</strong>ly form used in the Pentateuch). There was<br />
some reas<strong>on</strong> for this anxiety. For, inasmuch as in all the promises and laws Canaan<br />
al<strong>on</strong>e (the land <strong>on</strong> this side of the Jordan, Num 34:1-12) is always menti<strong>on</strong>ed as the<br />
land which Jehovah would give to His people for their inheritance, it was quite a<br />
possible thing that at some future time the false c<strong>on</strong>clusi<strong>on</strong> might be drawn from this,<br />
that <strong>on</strong>ly the tribes who dwelt in Canaan proper were the true people of Jehovah.<br />
