About Connect to Protect®: Boston Boston is made up of 20 diverse neighborhoods and more than 600,000 residents, as well as being home to world-class hospitals and healthcare centers. Boston takes pride in being one of the most livable cities in America due in large part to a core of committed long-term residents and communities. It is this commitment, along with a history of collaboration among community organizations and hospitals, that enables Connect to Protect®: Boston to provide opportunities to protect our city’s youth from HIV/AIDS infection. According to a recent United Nations report, half of all new HIV infections are among 15-24-year-olds, with young women particularly at risk. The researchers involved in C2P are from the Adolescent Medicine Trials Network (ATN) for HIV/AIDS Interventions, the only nationwide group devoted to looking at how youth and their communities are affected by this epidemic. Connect to Protect®: Boston is one of 15 city sites throughout the United States and Puerto Rico caring for children, teenagers, and young adults with HIV, searching for ways to keep HIV from spreading among young people, and making sure that adolescents and young adults are represented in research ranging from HIV prevention to treatment and care. 7
