for the future, in different ways. Jews were wealthier than others, and this most certainly made it easier for them to sacrifice the financial resources and the time for further education. However, family wealth did not make Jewish parents decide to send their children to college; they did so because of a mindset. This ethos of valuing post-secondary education was sparse among the general population in Lewiston during this time; it was a worldview that came from within the Jewish community. 14
