Application and Selection<br />

Bourdon tube pressure gauges are applicable for measuring<br />

pressure (and/or vacuum) between 0/0.6 and 0/4000 bar (0/10 to<br />

0/60,000 psi) of fluid or gaseous media.<br />

EN 837-2 has to be considered for the selection of the suitable<br />

model (please compare the selection criteria described in our<br />

"Mounting and Operating Instructions" that are to find also as<br />

pdf file on our web site).<br />

In particular it has to be considered that the pressure medium may<br />

not corrode any of the wetted parts.<br />

Pressure Ranges<br />

Bar is the prefered unit of pressure according to EN 837-1.<br />

In the model overview (page 8 ff) you will find the pressure ranges<br />

stated in bar.<br />

But in fact there are numerous different pressure units available,<br />

such as psi (compare page 7), inches of water ("WC), kg/cm²,<br />

kPa, MPa et al. Dual or triple scales are also possible.<br />

Special scales for almost all our pressure gauge models can be<br />

delivered upon request.<br />

Special Options<br />

Liquid Fillings<br />

Liquid fillings are used to protect the<br />

internals against damages caused by<br />

severe vibrations or pulsations, and to<br />

exclude ambient corrosives or condensation<br />

etc.<br />

The standard filling fluid is glycerine, and<br />

it is a special oil when the instruments are<br />

provided with electrical accessories (here:<br />

model code ...Oe).<br />

For lower temperatures special filling<br />

liquids are available upon request.<br />

With just a few exceptions the standard connections of our Bourdon<br />

tube pressure gauges are<br />

¼" BSP (nom. case sizes 50 and 63, resp. 2", 2½")<br />

½" BSP (nom. case sizes 80, 100, 160, 250,<br />

resp. 3", 4", 6", 10" )<br />

in accordance with EN 837-1.<br />

Construction<br />

The internals are basically constructed equally for all models.<br />

Bourdon tube, socket with thread connection, movement, dial, and<br />

pointer together constitute the complete measuring device. The<br />

case with ring and lens just protects the pressure element against<br />

influences from outside.<br />

All pressure gauges nom. size 100 (4") and up have a built-in<br />

adjustable zero stop at the movement (nom. case sizes < 80 (3"):<br />

pointer stop on the dial), and a movement stop to keep the pointer<br />

from going further than to the 6 o'clock position.<br />

Dial<br />

For bar pressure ranges the nominal ranges, scale spacings and<br />

scale numberings as well as the dial markings are in accordance<br />

to EN 837-1.<br />

Standard dials show a black scale on a white background.<br />

Pressure ranges and subdivisions see table on page 7.<br />

A factory serial number for reference is stated on the dial of gauges<br />

nom. sizes 100 (4") and up.<br />

Pressure Limitations<br />

According to EN 837-2 the pressure range should be such that the<br />

maximum working pressure does not exceed 75% of the maximum<br />

scale value for steady pressure or 65% of the maximum scale<br />

value for cyclic pressures.<br />

The following pressure limitations are to consider:<br />

Nom. sizes 100 (4"), 160 (6"), 250 (10"), 4½", and<br />

96 x 96 (3.8" x 3.8"), 144 x 144 (5.7"x 5.7")<br />

Most of our pressure gauges NCS 100 (4")<br />

and 160 (6") are available for high-pressure<br />

applications with pressure range 0-2500<br />

bar resp. 30,000 psi (and 35,000 psi), e.g.<br />

models RB..., RCh..., RK..., RSK..., and<br />

RSCh... (see page 11).<br />

Standard configuration for these highpressure<br />

versions is a high-pressure<br />

connection for ¼" pipe, with 60° sealing<br />

cone, female thread M 16 x 1.5, optional<br />

9/16"–18 UNF female or male (left); others<br />

upon request.<br />

These instruments are applicable e.g at<br />

pressure controlled clamping tools,<br />

hydraulic systems, and water torches et<br />

al.<br />

various special temperature scales for the<br />

Rail Car Gauges<br />

A wide field for application of Bourdon tube<br />

pressure gauges is the pressure measurement<br />

at brake systems of rail cars.<br />

In accordance to the requirements we offer<br />

numerous versions of different special<br />

gauges in nominal sizes 60, 80, 100, 130,<br />

160 and 96x96 (2.4", 3", 4", 5", 6" and 3.78x<br />

3.78") with pressure ranges 0-1.6 to 0-16<br />

Caisson gauges are Bourdon tube<br />

element, where the ambient pressure acts<br />

They are applied e.g. at caissons and<br />

dipping barrels, at mining, civil engineering<br />

works, and tunneling when pressure is<br />
