The <strong>Gatugi</strong> <strong>Factory</strong> is one of the wet mills that is part of the Othaya FCS<br />
cooperative. The coop was founded in 1956 with 256 members. Today, it<br />
has 19 wet mills and is the largest cooperative in <strong>Kenya</strong> with 14,000<br />
members. The coffee is shade grown using banana trees, macadamia, and<br />
other tropical trees. The Aberdare Ranges are very close to the equator and<br />
just below the tea zone, which means rich and well weathered soils.<br />
