Modulator (Sony PCM701es) and my VCR. It makes your VCR (even a mono<br />

one) work like a digital recorder by converting your audio signal to<br />

digital. You can mix 4 tracks down to the PCM/VCR and then re-record<br />

it back to the 4 track in stereo (channels 1 & 4 panned far left &<br />

right). There's minimal generation loss cause it's digital. Then you<br />

can add more stuff on channels 2 & 3 and repeat the process or just<br />

use the PCM as your digital master when you mix down.<br />

The audio portion on Hi-Fi STEREO vcr tape has a higher bandwidth than<br />

conventional cassette tape, so the sound is much crisper and clean.<br />

However, I have not tried this myself, as I do not have a Stereo vcr<br />

deck. A friend of mine uses one to mix down and he's quite happy with<br />

it and wouldn't even get rid of it for a DAT! Although, maybe he'd<br />

use them side-by-side. He played a few tracks that he had done, and<br />

then he played an XTC album that he had recorded straight off of vinyl<br />
