Lakmé Director of Education Carlos Vidal, is a
renowned member of the team, respected for his
considerable professional experience and artistic
skills. Carlos began his brilliant career at a very
young age under the internationally famed stylist
Lluis Llongueras. After successfully running one
of his salons in Spain for several years, he began
work as a freelance stylist and cinema, TV and
advertising make-up artist.
Carlos works on the development and testing
of new Lakmé products, delivers international
education seminars and shares the firm’s passion
in the pursuit of beauty and excellence at work.

the fundamentals
“A solid foundation builds a strong home” - the
Lakmé Fundamental program is the foundation
behind a successful and strong understanding in
colour fundamentals. It is important to understand
all aspects of Lakmé and how to navigate through
intensive salon colour scenarios with ease. All About
Colour unlocks colour formulations, grey coverage
guidelines, mixation and recipes for perfect
colour blending.
Participants will be taken on a comprehensive
knowledge lab where they will learn the art of
concise colour consultations, the Lakmé colour
portfolio, international technical standards,
colour interpretation and accurate diagnosis
and principles of colour.
Participants will be taken through a Theoretical
Session and Practical Workshop where knowledge
gained will be demonstrated and perfected in an
open learning environment. A model will be required
for the practical workshop in the afternoon and the
model should fit the criteria of grey coverage, gloss
or fashion colour.

Lakmé Australia's National Technical Manager,
Melanie Fahey-Nielsen brings a wealth of
international and local experience to the Lakmé
brand. With strong foundations in hairdressing
from her formative years in the industry, Melanie
has also held prestigious education positions
with leading brands internationally.
Her inspirational education programs and colouring
expertise is testament to her passion for colour; a
dedication that she now shares with Lakmé clients
across the country.

advanced colourist
Seasoned Lakmé colourists will explore the
colouring world of balancing, refreshing, creative
colour palette toning and swatch tutorials. The
colourist will gain intensive insight to Lakmé
methodology of correctional colouring, trouble
shooting, colour concierge and prescriptive
maintenance.
The Advanced Colourist will have the opportunity
to demonstrate blonding formulas, understand the
Lakmé colour removal system and our systematic
approach to darkening or lightening even the most
challenging hair types.
Participants will be taken through a theoretical
session, a swatch out tutorial and a practical
workshop in the afternoon. A model is required for
the practical workshop session in the afternoon and
the model should fit the criteria of correctional colour
or first time fashion colour work.

beyond blonde
dimensional design
This interactive and kinetic colouring seminar takes
colourists with a passion for blondes and beyond
on a colour journey that exposes even the most
seasoned of colourists to the many different levels
and approaches to blonding within the salon.
Gone are the days of basic blonding applications,
Beyond Blonde teaches how to create perfect
colour harmonising with all levels of blonde hair.
Lakmé has a systematic approach to the way
we utilise our k.blonde blonding systems, from
conventional methodology to unconventional
pastelisation, glazing and overlays. Beyond Blonde
teaches the colourist the art of Dimensional Design
through multi-faceted colour display without the
use of foil or meché techniques.
Participants will be taken through a theoretical
session and practical workshop in the afternoon.
A model is required for the practical workshop
session in the afternoon and the model should fit
the criteria of a global blonde colour, hi-lighted
blonde colour or dimensional colour work.

national creative director
Dani Blakeley is Creative Director for the professional
hair care brand Lakmé. Dani has been nominated
for, and is the winner of numerous awards for
cutting, colouring and catwalk work including
the AHFA in 2010.
After moving home to Melbourne and meeting
her husband and business partner, David and
Dani opened the renowned salon, Yoshiko Hair in
Melbourne’s cultural hub of St Kilda. It is here that
they lead their team of highly skilled professionals,
exhibiting the same enthusiastic passion that
inspired Dani‘s career 15 years ago.
master colour artistry
the ambassador program
Have you ever wanted to be the technical point
person within your salon? This advanced training
program is for a seasoned Lakmé salon colourist.
Over the course of 3 months the Lakmé team will
provide the selected salon ambassador with in depth
Lakmé Hair Science and Colour Theory.
As an Ambassador, you will be taken on an
architectural tour of the Lakmé colour history,
branding and portfolio and trained as our
technicans are trained internationally with Lakmé.
The participant will be trained in colour collective
mood boards, fashion trends, brand perspective
and how to recreate your own seasonal collection
through the art of colour and cutting techniques.
Upon completion of Master Colour Artistry, each
individual will be an Ambassador of the Lakmé
brand and given the opportunity to showcase
their individual creativity and Lakmé expertise.
The MCA program takes place over 3 consecutive
sessions held once a month for 3 months. There
will be practical assessments to be completed
and assignments to work on in personal time.

Showcasing the Lakmé Seasonal Collection of the
latest cutting and colouring techniques designed
and executed by Creative Director Dani Blakeley.
Be taken on a journey of mood boarding, inspiration,

concepts relevant and adaptable within your

This workshop gives a stylist the unique opportunity
for an intimate styling and colouring session with

in Australia, Grant has always been involved in
educating the youth and has seen his craft take
him around the world to far flung international
locations. Throughout his young life, Grant has
been nominated for and won numerous awards
and had his work published internationally in

Grant works alongside the evo® founder and
CEO, Gavin von Gavin as well as creative director,
Leonard Newton designing and implementing global

Although not much of note really came out of
the 90’s, the start of Andre’s career is a notable
exception. Honing his trade in a manner akin to the
Karate Kid, his masters included icons like Nick Irwin,
Clive Alright, Richard Mannah and Dennis Langford.
He worked his way through the ranks with industry
leading brands across Australia, Asia and London
and most recently worked in the role of National
Education Director with one of the big kahunas
of hair.
Keen to multi-task he likes to take a snap or two and
his work has featured in Australian Harper’s Bazaar,
Vogue, Highlights Magazine, Culture and Australian
Hairdressers Journal to name a few.

Lauren McCowan is an award winning stylist who
has a multi disciplinary approach to her career.
Highly passionate and driven, she studied fashion
and make-up before embarking on her hair career;
wanting to be a cross disciplinary creator. She
studied her apprenticeship under the innovative eye
of Benni Tognini and then relocated to New York to
pursue a thriving editorial career.
Lauren returned to Australia to collaborate with
Haircare Australia as the Creative Director for
Cloud Nine Australia. Her passion for the brand
and desire to help evolve the industry through
education has seen her create the Cloud Nine
education program and travel the world to plant
inspiration in stylists everywhere.
Lauren’s eclectic skill set enables her to create total
looks and interpret trends and vision from any angle.
Her appreciation and background in other creative
disciplines allows for a truly collaborative approach
with a team. Her passion and drive inspires and

Prêt a Porter I progresses the classic techniques
of Origins and delves deeper into applying the
Cloud Nine tool portfolio to creative applications.
Prêt a Porter translates to ‘ready to wear’, and this
intermediate level is all about building confidence
with finishing, refining, starting to interpret trends
and create modern looks. This level also focuses on
simple and effective sectioning patterns and how to
break down a look from a creative application to a
client at home.

Andre has over 15 years of experience as a
hairdresser, having begun his career in New Zealand
where he completed his apprenticeship.
Andre’s professional history is accomplished and
varied, having built his career from the salon floor up.
After commencing hairdressing with respected chain
Toni&Guy in New Zealand, he then moved to work in
their Sydney based Pitt Street salon, which formed
the foundation for his next step as a salon owner/
operator.
Andre’s passion for hairdressing and the industry
led him into the education arena, where he spent
in excess of 10 years sharing his knowledge and
expertise as a leading educator and platform
educator in Australia, Asia and London
representing the industry’s leading brands.
Andre now joins Cloud Nine in redefining the use
of hot tools in salon, and creating looks that can
be taught to clients for replication at home.

Prêt a Porter II takes the looks learnt in Prêt a Porter
I and develops into a set for dressing long hair. We
look at iconic long hair shapes and give them a
thoroughly modern Cloud Nine twist. This course
is designed to give a new creative approach and

stylist should have in their skill sets.

keVin hughes
educator
Kevin Hughes has been a hair stylist and colour
specialist for over 20 years. A Long Island native and
one of 12 children growing up, he trained in colour at
the prestigious Louis Licari Salon in New York City
and attended extensive hands-on classes in cutting,
colouring and styling for television and film. He later
opened his own salon and managed the business
for more than eight years.
In 2011, Kevin joined the Moroccanoil Global
Education Team, bringing in a wealth of knowledge
with enormous creativity and travelling the globe
to share the latest Moroccanoil product news and
brand strategies.
Backstage at Fashion Week, Kevin has worked with
top designers including Carolina Herrera, Badgley
Mischka and Catherine Malandrino.
Now based in L.A., Kevin’s energy and passion
for teaching and inspiring others is contagious
and client satisfaction is one of the most important
things to him.

her wedding day. Discover bridal hair trends and

day. This class will showcase both upcoming bridal

Violet sainsbury

Violet Sainsbury started her hairdressing career
in 1999 in Cairns, later joining the Schwarzkopf
Young Artistic Team as a session stylist where she
discovered platform artistry. In 2004 Violet moved to
Brisbane to focus on becoming a platform educator
and won the L’Oréal Colour Trophy.
After attending a Toni&Guy show in her home town,
Violet set her sights on the brand which lead to her
becoming an Educator in the Queensland Academy
and then an Art Director. In 2007 she earned a
coveted place on the Australian F.A.M.E. Team and
embarked on a national and international education
tour before relocating to London to work at the
brand’s flagship Regent Street salon.
As part of the Toni&Guy session styling team,
Violet worked on a number of shows including
London Fashion Week which positioned her to
welcome a celebrity clientele including former
Spice Girl, Geri Halliwell, Johnny Buckland
(Coldplay guitarist) and other popular musicians.

looks and latest trends hot off the runways – from
New York to Milan to London to Paris. This 2 – 2½
hour class will demonstrate how to make any runway

the globe, working behind the scenes to execute
