Briggs & Stratton ® will begin rolling out the New E-SERIES Initiative in 2011 to set a
new standard of engine performance across our small vertical shaft engine ranges.
The New E-SERIES Initiative will place reduced exhaust emissions at the heart of all
engines performance. Our commitment will be to surpass the European Exhaust
Emissions Standards by at least 25%.
The New E-SERIES Initiative is not just about emissions, it is also about an evolution
in overall standards that will widen choice and enhance the end user experience.
The founding principles of power, reliability and durability remain core to the Briggs
& Stratton value proposition. In addition the New E-SERIES Initiative will ensure that
these principles further evolve to include easier starting, improved performance and
enhanced customer experience.
Core to the New E-SERIES Initiative will be the introduction of two new engines,
the 400E* and 500E-SERIES. These new engines will meet the New E-SERIES
standards which will establish a new level of performance in its class.
Between now and the end of 2014 all Briggs & Stratton small vertical shaft
engines will perform to the new E-SERIES standards.

THE RIGHT POWER FOR YOUR LAWN
Your lawnmower is only as powerful and durable as the engine that drives it.
The 400E and 500E-SERIES engines are ideal to power lawnmowers for gardens
up to 600 square meters.
TORQUE
Torque is simply the strength of the turning force the engine delivers to the blade
of your lawnmower. The more torque your engine has the easier it is to cut longer,
thicker grass. By incorporating the latest engine design technologies the New
E-SERIES engines ensure optimal torque and efficiency. Better efficiency means
more torque and lower emissions from a smaller engine displacement.

OVERHEAD VALVE TECHNOLOGY
The New 400E and 500E-SERIES OHV engines provide optimal performance in
terms of power efficiency. By combining Overhead Valve technology with world class
machining and manufacturing processes gained over 100 years, results in a highly
efficient engine delivering optimal power with lower emissions per cc.
MECHANICAL GOVERNOR
The New 400E and 500E-SERIES engines feature an advanced mechanical governor
system which is designed to better react and manage engine performance and power
delivery under variable work load conditions. Whether you be cutting damp or long
grass, the mechanical governor will ensure the engine delivers the right power all
the time.
SUPER LO-TONE MUFFLER
The New 550EX ECO PLUS and 575EX models are equipped with the Briggs
& Stratton Super Lo-Tone muffler system which significantly reduces noise and
delivers exceptional tonal quality.
READYSTART ®
NO PRIMING - NO CHOKING - JUST PULL FOR POWER
The ReadyStart ® System sets the standard for easy starting. The innovative break
through starting system eliminates the need to manually prime or choke the engine
before starting. ReadyStart ® is a standard feature on the 550EX ECO PLUS and 575EX models.
S2 STARTING GUARANTEE
The S2 Guarantee offers you complete peace of mind knowing that your Briggs
& Stratton engine will start within two pulls every time guaranteed. Our continual
pursuit for total product reliability backed by more than 100 years of design and
innovation has resulted in this unique product guarantee. The S2 Guarantee is

ECO PLUS
Briggs & Stratton has a long-standing commitment to protect the environment.
Core to the New E-SERIES engines is the reduction of engine exhaust emissions.
ECO PLUS goes one step further, in addition to reducing exhaust emissions, it
also reduces evaporative emissions. Evaporative emissions occur when an engine is
not in use. During equipment storage, whether it be a lawnmower, tiller, or generator,
the fuel in the tank evaporates and the hydrocarbons together with nitrogen-oxides
pollute the air resulting in increased petrol emissions. ECO PLUS significantly
reduces these evaporative emissions and as a result lessens the petrol odour in
your storage area.
