JANUARY 2, 2011 – EPIPHANY OF THE LORD
****************************************************************
To the wonderful people of
St. Thomas the Apostle Parish
community: Thank you for
your generosity in meeting the
needs of so many families through the overflowing
food baskets during the Thanksgiving and
Christmas holidays as well as the hundreds of
Christmas presents for the needy children of our
community. It is incredible to see the extent of
your generosity. When there is a need, whether it
is for Velveeta cheese or hams, you step up to the
plate. Plus, I would be remiss if I failed to thank
Barb Lawson, who coordinated these efforts with
the help of so many parishioners. So thank you to
Barb and the multitude of helpers – it truly is a
parish-wide effort. On a personal note, thank you
for the birthday greetings, Christmas greetings
and the gifts. I surely appreciate the kindness
extended toward me as a well as our staff. Your
kindness and generosity make the world much
brighter. Once again, thank you.
Fr. Steve
The Staff says a special Thank You to Susan
Sauers for her weekly help in preparing the
bulletin. Susan is starting a new job, so we
would love another volunteer to come forward.
Call the office if you’d like to help.

“The…Church is not being insensitive or heartless when she opposes human embryonic stem-cell research. She is being
honest and truthful [to] point out why this kind of research is morally wrong while pointing to other forms of research
which are morally good and are already demonstrating real progress. As members of the Church, we need to know the
medical facts, the principles of the natural moral law and the “what” and “why” of the Church’s teachings in this area. Our
stance in opposing human embryonic stem cell research is not just a Catholic perspective; it is a moral perspective; it is not
just a Catholic directive, but a natural moral law imperative. We are not imposing Catholic doctrine on the wider society, but we
are rightfully seeking to influence decisions from a moral stance which looks to the common good.”
Happy Birthday in January
Prayer on a Birthday
As I celebrate my
birthday today,
permit me, God,
to celebrate it with
you in this private way,
opening my heart to
you.
If I reached this year
it is because of you,
who were never absent
from my life.
Your presence has given
me the will
to fight against
what is selfish and evil.
You have accompanied
me, Lord,
with the power of
your kindness
all along the
journey of my life;
you have preserved
me
with a strong and
happy disposition to do
your will.
Keep lit for many years,
O God,
the spark of my life,
so that I may thank
you daily
for the light of your
blessing.
Amen.
