• Hardware drivers (for Me or Windows 98) for any hardware<br />

not supported by the drivers on the Windows Me CD-ROM<br />

• The Windows Me CD-ROM drive<br />

Follow these steps:<br />

1. Boot the system with the Emergency Startup Disk.<br />

2. Run FDISK <strong>and</strong> select Large Drive Support if you want to<br />

exceed 2GB per drive letter <strong>and</strong> if any other OS you might<br />

install can also use FAT-32. Create the partition(s) desired.<br />

The drive must have an active partition (which will be C:<br />

<strong>and</strong> bootable); it can also have an extended partition that<br />

can contain one or more drives (D: <strong>and</strong> beyond).<br />

3. Exit FDISK.<br />

4. Reboot the computer with the Emergency Startup Disk.<br />

5. Run FORMAT to format drive(s) created with FDISK:<br />

FORMAT C: formats C: drive<br />

FORMAT D: formats D: drive if present; repeat for<br />

E: & others<br />

6. Restart the system with the EBD; boot files will be installed<br />

on the hard disk during step 7.<br />

7. Install the remainder of the operating system files from the<br />

Windows Me CD-ROM as prompted. Restart the system<br />

when prompted. You must provide proof of a previous OS<br />

purchase (such as old Windows disks or a CD-ROM) when<br />

prompted if you are installing an upgrade version onto a<br />

blank drive.<br />

Installing Windows NT 4.0 or Windows 2000<br />

Prerequisites:<br />

You will need to create setup disks (three or four—it varies with<br />

each version) by running WINNT32 from the \I386 folder of the<br />

Windows NT 4.0 or Windows 2000 CD-ROM. The computer you<br />

use to create these disks doesn’t need to be running Windows NT<br />

4.0 or Windows 2000.<br />

Follow these steps:<br />

1. Start the installation process on the target computer by putting<br />

Setup disk 1 into the A: drive <strong>and</strong> restarting the computer;<br />

follow the prompts for each additional disk.
