starts the alternate possession procedure.
PENALTIES AND VIOLATIONS
Game play violations (i.e. travel, 3 seconds in the lane, double dribble, back court violation)
called by the official will result in a turnover and throw-in at the location of the violation by the
opponent.
Offense will have 10-seconds to get the ball across half court. Failure to move the ball past half
court in ten seconds will result in a turnover. The opponent will be awarded the ball and a throwin
will occur from the sideline.
The inbounding team will have five seconds to put the ball into play otherwise will lose
possession to the opposing team. The ball will be put in play once it is released by the inbounder.
A player may not hold or dribble the ball for more than 5 seconds if he is being closely guarded.
This will result in a turnover.
• The player in control of the ball is considered closely guarded when a defensive player is
in a defensive stance no more than six feet away. NOTE: If a player changes his
possession from holding to dribble or vice versa, he/she is entitled to a new 5 second
count.
player-control) that occurs on the ground will result in one team foul and the ball will go to the
opponent.
