Configure Emulex HBA to Boot from SAN<br />

Configuring the Emulex HBA BIOS to boot from SAN includes enabling the BootBIOS prompt and enabling<br />

BIOS.<br />

Procedure<br />

1 Enable the BootBIOS Prompt on page 60<br />

When you configure the Emulex HBA BIOS to boot <strong>ESXi</strong> from SAN, you need to enable the BootBIOS<br />

prompt.<br />

2 Enable the BIOS on page 60<br />

When you configure the Emulex HBA BIOS to boot <strong>ESXi</strong> from SAN, you need to enable BIOS.<br />

Enable the BootBIOS Prompt<br />

When you configure the Emulex HBA BIOS to boot <strong>ESXi</strong> from SAN, you need to enable the BootBIOS prompt.<br />

Procedure<br />

1 Run lputil.<br />

2 Select 3. Firmware Maintenance.<br />

3 Select an adapter.<br />

4 Select 6. Boot BIOS Maintenance.<br />

5 Select 1. Enable Boot BIOS.<br />

Enable the BIOS<br />

When you configure the Emulex HBA BIOS to boot <strong>ESXi</strong> from SAN, you need to enable BIOS.<br />

Procedure<br />

1 Reboot the host.<br />

2 To configure the adapter parameters, press ALT+E at the Emulex prompt and follow these steps.<br />

a Select an adapter (with BIOS support).<br />

b Select 2. Configure This Adapter's Parameters.<br />

c Select 1. Enable or Disable BIOS.<br />

d Select 1 to enable BIOS.<br />

e Select x to exit and Esc to return to the previous menu.<br />

3 To configure the boot device, follow these steps from the Emulex main menu.<br />

a Select the same adapter.<br />

b Select 1. Configure Boot Devices.<br />

c Select the location for the Boot Entry.<br />

d Enter the two-digit boot device.<br />

e Enter the two-digit (HEX) starting LUN (for example, 08).<br />

f Select the boot LUN.<br />
