<strong>vSphere</strong> <strong>Storage</strong><br />

3 Assign a storage capability to the datastore.<br />

n Select a capability from a list of available storage capabilities.<br />

n Create and assign a new user-defined storage capability.<br />

The user-defined storage capability is assigned to the datastore. If you created a new capability, it appears on<br />

the list of storage capabilities in the Manage <strong>Storage</strong> Capabilities dialog box.<br />

Associate a User-Defined <strong>Storage</strong> Capability with Multiple Datastores<br />

You can select multiple datastores and associate them with a user-defined storage capability.<br />

Procedure<br />

1 Open a list of datastores in the <strong>vSphere</strong> Client.<br />

2 Press Ctrl and select several datastores.<br />

b Select the Datastores and Datastore Cluster tab.<br />

b Select the Configuration tab, and click <strong>Storage</strong>.<br />

3 Right-click a selected datastore and select Assign User-Defined <strong>Storage</strong> Capability.<br />

4 Select a storage capability from the list of storage capabilities and click OK.<br />

Select an existing storage capability Select a user-defined storage capability from the Name drop-down menu<br />

and click OK.<br />

The storage capability is now associated with the selected datastores.<br />

Remove a <strong>Storage</strong> Capability<br />

You can remove an existing user-defined storage capability if you do not use it.<br />

You can only remove user-defined storage capabilities. You cannot remove a system-defined storage capability.<br />

CAUTION If you remove a storage capability that is part of a virtual machine storage profile, you might break<br />

the virtual machine storage profile compliance for the virtual machines and virtual disks that use it.<br />

Procedure<br />

1 In the VM <strong>Storage</strong> Profiles view of the <strong>vSphere</strong> Client, click Manage <strong>Storage</strong> Capabilities.<br />

The Manage <strong>Storage</strong> Capabilities dialog box appears.<br />

2 Select an unused storage capability and click Remove.<br />

3 Click Yes in the confirmation dialog box.<br />

The storage capability is removed from the list.<br />
