View Existing <strong>Storage</strong> Capabilities in the <strong>vSphere</strong> Web Client<br />

Before you add your storage capabilities, you can view system-defined storage capabilities that your storage<br />

system reports.<br />

Prerequisites<br />

To be able to report system-defined storage capabilities, your storage system must support <strong>Storage</strong> APIs -<br />

<strong>Storage</strong> Awareness.<br />

Procedure<br />

1 From the <strong>vSphere</strong> Web Client Home, click Rules and Profiles > VM <strong>Storage</strong> Profiles.<br />

2 Click the Create, Edit or Remove <strong>Storage</strong> Capabilities icon.<br />

3 View system-defined capabilities reported by your storage.<br />

What to do next<br />

You can add, edit, or remove user-defined storage capabilities. You cannot modify system-defined capabilities.<br />

Add a User-Defined <strong>Storage</strong> Capability in the <strong>vSphere</strong> Client<br />

You can create a storage capability and assign it to a datastore to indicate the capabilities that this datastore<br />

has.<br />

Procedure<br />

1 In the VM <strong>Storage</strong> Profiles view of the <strong>vSphere</strong> Client, click Manage <strong>Storage</strong> Capabilities.<br />

The Manage <strong>Storage</strong> Capabilities dialog box appears.<br />

2 Click Add.<br />

3 Provide a name and a description for the storage capability.<br />

<strong>Storage</strong> Capability Property Example<br />

Name Fault tolerance.<br />

Description <strong>Storage</strong> that has a capacity over 2TB and is fault-tolerant.<br />

4 Click OK.<br />

The storage capability appears in the list and is specified as User-defined in the Type column.<br />

What to do next<br />

Assign the user-defined storage capabilities to datastores that have that capability.<br />

Add a User-Defined <strong>Storage</strong> Capability in the <strong>vSphere</strong> Web Client<br />

You can create a specific storage capability and then later assign it to a datastore to indicate the capabilities<br />

that this datastore has.<br />

Procedure<br />

1 From the <strong>vSphere</strong> Web Client Home, click Rules and Profiles > VM <strong>Storage</strong> Profiles.<br />

2 Click the Create, Edit or Remove <strong>Storage</strong> Capabilities icon.<br />

The Manage <strong>Storage</strong> Capabilities panel opens.<br />

3 Click the add icon.<br />
