<strong>Storage</strong> Device Information Description<br />

Partition Format A partition scheme used by the storage device. It could be of a master boot record (MBR)<br />

or GUID partition table (GPT) format. The GPT devices can support datastores greater<br />

than 2TB. For more information, see “VMFS Datastores and <strong>Storage</strong> Disk Formats,” on<br />

page 155.<br />

Partitions Primary and logical partitions, including a VMFS datastore, if configured.<br />

Multipathing Policies (VMFS<br />

datastores)<br />

Path Selection Policy and <strong>Storage</strong> Array Type Policy the host uses to manage paths to<br />

storage. For more information, see Chapter 20, “Understanding Multipathing and<br />

Failover,” on page 193.<br />

Paths (VMFS datastores) Paths used to access storage and their status.<br />

Display <strong>Storage</strong> Devices for a Host in the <strong>vSphere</strong> Client<br />

Use the <strong>vSphere</strong> Client to display all storage devices or LUNs available to a host. If you use any third-party<br />

multipathing plug-ins, the storage devices available through the plug-ins also appear on the list.<br />

Procedure<br />

1 In Inventory, select Hosts and Clusters.<br />

2 Select a host and click the Configuration tab.<br />

3 In Hardware, select <strong>Storage</strong>.<br />

4 Click Devices.<br />

5 To view additional details about a specific device, select the device from the list.<br />

Display <strong>Storage</strong> Devices for a Host in the <strong>vSphere</strong> Web Client<br />

Display all storage devices available to a host. If you use any third-party multipathing plug-ins, the storage<br />

devices available through the plug-ins also appear on the list.<br />

The <strong>Storage</strong> Devices view allows you to list the hosts' storage devices, analyze their information, and modify<br />

properties.<br />

Procedure<br />

1 Browse to the host in the <strong>vSphere</strong> Web Client navigator.<br />

2 Click the Manage tab, and click <strong>Storage</strong>.<br />

3 Click <strong>Storage</strong> Devices.<br />

All storage devices available to the host are listed under <strong>Storage</strong> Devices.<br />

4 To view details for a specific device, select the device from the list.<br />

5 Use tabs under Device Details to access additional information and modify properties for the selected<br />

device.<br />

Properties View device properties and characteristics. View and modify multipathing<br />

policies for the device.<br />

Paths Display paths available for the device. Disable or enable a selected path.<br />
