<strong>vSphere</strong> <strong>Storage</strong><br />

Option Description<br />

Use free space Deploys an extent in the remaining free space of the disk. This option is<br />

available only when you are adding an extent.<br />

Use all available partitions Dedicates the entire disk to a single extent. This option is available only when<br />

you are adding an extent and when the disk you are formatting is not blank.<br />

The disk is reformatted, and the datastores and any data that it contains are<br />

erased.<br />

5 Set the capacity for the extent.<br />

The minimum extent size is 1.3GB. By default, the entire free space on the storage device is available.<br />

6 Click Next.<br />

7 Review the proposed layout and the new configuration of your datastore, and click Finish.<br />

Rename VMFS or NFS Datastores in the <strong>vSphere</strong> Client<br />

You can change the name of an existing datastore.<br />

Procedure<br />

1 Display the datastores.<br />

2 Right-click the datastore to rename and select Rename.<br />

3 Type a new datastore name.<br />

If you use the vCenter Server system to manage your hosts, the new name appears on all hosts that have access<br />

to the datastore.<br />

Rename VMFS or NFS Datastores in the <strong>vSphere</strong> Web Client<br />

Prerequisites<br />

Browse to Datastores in the <strong>vSphere</strong> Web Client navigator. See “Display Datastore Information in the <strong>vSphere</strong><br />

Web Client,” on page 23.<br />

Procedure<br />

1 Right-click the datastore to rename.<br />

2 Select Rename from the right-click menu.<br />

3 Type a new datastore name.<br />

The <strong>vSphere</strong> Web Client enforces a 42 character limit for the datastore name.<br />

The new name appears on all hosts that have access to the datastore.<br />

Group VMFS or NFS Datastores in the <strong>vSphere</strong> Client<br />

If you use the vCenter Server system to manage your hosts, group datastores into folders. This allows you to<br />

organize your datastores according to business practices and to assign the same permissions and alarms on<br />

the datastores in the group at one time.<br />

Procedure<br />

1 Log in to the <strong>vSphere</strong> Client.<br />

2 If necessary, create the datastores.<br />
