ASCII-like Character Sets<br />

Table H–1 indicates which character sets are ASCII-like. ASCII-like character sets are<br />

those that are essentially identical to the ASCII/ISO character set in the range of values<br />

from 0000 to 0177. Where ASCII-like character sets differ from ASCII/ISO in the 0000<br />

through 0177 range, the difference must be minor. For example, a character set that<br />

replaces the U.S. dollar sign with a British pound sign is ASCII-like because both are<br />

currency symbols.<br />
