SIR$–Symbolic Input/Output Routine Data Record The first word of each data record is the image control word. For data records written by SIR$, the format of the image control word is as follows: 0 0 1 11 12 17 18 23 24 29 30 35 0 image length (words) previous images deleted flag delete cycle number new images flag start cycle number S6 is the element cycle at which the image was added; S4 is the cycle at which it was deleted. If the image is added on the latest cycle (after cycle zero), the new flag is set. The calling processor marks the line as "NEW". If this is not a new image and any previous images were deleted on the cycle, S3 is nonzero. When the symbolic input is from a FURPUR-formatted element file, the tape label block is read prior to entering SIR$. SIR$ then treats it as a program-file element. After SIR$ is closed, the tape is positioned in front of the new element label block. SIR$ contains its own D-bank; however, all D-bank references in SIR$ are made using index registers. This allows the SIR$ D-bank to be located above the 65K addressing boundary. 23.1. SIR$–Control Options SIR$ uses options to control the input and output of the symbolic elements. Most of the Unisys language processors (FTN, MASM, ACOB, NUALG, etc.) and system processors (DATA, ELT, PDP, and Collector) use the SIR$ routine to obtain input. The following options are available in most language system processors: G H I Input is compressed symbolic in columns 1 through 80 of the symbolic images. Applies only with I option. Input contains sequence numbers in columns 73 through 80 of the images. Applies only with I option. Read images from the runstream and insert them into a new symbolic. If the I option is present without any source input (SI) specification, SIR$ reads images from the runstream and passes them to the caller. In this case, if the calling program is a multipass processor, a scratch file (usually PSF$) must be provided so that the source images can be processed on the second and subsequent passes. 23–6 7833 1733–004
J K SIR$–Symbolic Input/Output Routine Input contains compressed symbolic images in columns 1 through 72 of the images and sequence numbers in columns 73 through 80. These sequence numbers are not checked by either the J option or the K option. Applies only with the I option. Check sequence numbers in columns 73 through 80 of the symbolic images (valid only with H and I options). P and Q U W The P and Q options are used in combination to specify the CCSs of source output images produced by SIR$. A detailed description of source output operations follows this list of options. Read change images from the runstream, apply them to the symbolic input element, and produce a new cycle of the symbolic element. List line-change statements and change images. SIR$ Source Output When the source output portion of PARTBL (Words 14 through 26) has been filled by the calling program, SIR$ produces a source output file or element. When the I option is specified, the source output is created from runstream images. When the I option is not specified, the source output is created from source input images, possibly modified by corrections contained on runstream images. The CCS of images in the source output is controlled by the various combinations of the P and Q options and by the CCS of the images in the source input and the runstream. In general, the P option requests Fieldata source output, the Q option requests ASCII source output, and both the P and Q options request source output without translation. 7833 1733–004 23–7
