SAR$ COM 20.1.1.3. Information Returned by SAR$ COM Procedure The following fields of the SAR$ COM packet contain values returned by the SAR$ COM procedure to the calling program: CALL_STATUS PLUS Attribute: 18-bit status The status of the current call to the SAR_COM procedure. See Table 20–3 for an explanation of the SAR$ COM procedure call status codes. This field may also be referenced as an 18-bit logical field with label CALL_STATUS_CODE. SUB_STATUS_CODE PLUS Attribute: 6-bit logical This field contains additional information for particular CALL_STATUS codes. COM_STATUS_WORD PLUS Attribute: word logical A one-word combination of CALL_STATUS and SUB_STATUS contained in H2 and S1, respectively. RECOMMENDED_BUFFER_LENGTH PLUS Attribute: 18-bit integer The recommended buffer or table length returned by the SAR$ COM function when an invalid length is specified or when an overflow occurs. OUTPUT_IMAGE_BYTE_LENGTH PLUS Attribute: 18-bit integer The length in bytes of the image written out by the SAR_COM procedure. BYTE_LENGTH_OF_INPUT_TEXT PLUS Attribute: 18-bit integer The length in 9-bit bytes of the character text read from the operator's console and returned in the input text buffer. NUMBER_OF_INPUT_ATTRIBUTES PLUS Attribute: 18-bit integer The number of attributes returned in the input attribute table. 20–6 7833 1733–004
20.1.2. SAR$ PLUS COM Procedure Buffers and Tables SAR$ COM All buffers and tables must be provided by the calling program. The type definitions for the buffers and tables and the definitions for the default buffer and table lengths are contained in the element SAR$DEFN in the <strong>SYSLIB</strong> file (SYS$LIB$*<strong>SYSLIB</strong>) or SYS$*RLIB$. This element is obtained with the COPY statement. The buffers and tables for the COM function are similar to the buffers and tables for the READ and WRITE functions. See 17.1.2 and 18.1.2 for details on the buffers and tables. Note that for the COM function, the image buffer is not used if the input and output images do not have character attributes. The default buffer and table lengths are listed in Table 20–1. Table 20–1.
