13.3. Error Conditions
MFDSP$–Master File Directory Service Package
On error return, registers A4 and A5 sometimes contain additional information. MFDSP$
error codes (returned in register A2) are as follows:

Function out of range.
Buffer too small.
A4 = one of the following values, indicating the type of buffer size error:

Buffer smaller than minimum scratch space required to do any function.
This code is only returned if the buffer is smaller than 200 words.
Buffer is too small to complete initialization of the DGET$ or DGETP$ file.
Buffer is large enough to complete initialization of the file but is not large
enough to do double-buffered I/O on the file.
A5 = Amount of buffer space required.
In all cases, the calling program may obtain the required amount of buffer space and
reinitialize the package.
Illogical function sequence; for example, a request was made to obtain a main item
extension sector when the preceding request was not for a main item.
Bad link to lead item sector 1; A3 = MFD address in error.
Bad link from lead item to main item; A3 = MFD address in error.
Main item does not have MBIT set.
