SELT does not clear ELT$. The calling program should test which field lengths of the
first two words are nonzero. This determines which Fieldata fields contain meaningful
information. If a Fieldata field is defined, the information it contains is left-justified and
space-filled to one or two words.
If the field selected by SELT$ contains a leading period, then the CFN field is set.
The CFN field contains the number of the last field that did not contain a leading period.
