Performs better
than Baha Divino ®
In a recent clinical study,
patients showed better hearing
in noise using a Baha BP100. 1
The average improvement
was equivalent to about
25% better performance than
with their Baha Divino when
listening binaurally. 1,2
Baha audiologists, surgeons, and users told us what they wanted most and we reengineered every function and
every component of our new generation of Baha sound processor. The Cochlear Baha BP100 is the crystal clear
choice for patients with a conductive hearing loss, mixed hearing loss, or single-sided deafness. Inside and out, the
rich and natural sound of the Baha just got better.
Creating clarity in sound
A hearing instrument’s ability to
provide clarity in sound depends on
three key components.
First, the hearing instrument needs to automatically adapt to the
user’s sound environment and clean the input signal. Second, it
should provide the optimal amplification strategy to match the
individual’s hearing loss. And third, it must effectively deliver that
clean, amplified sound to the cochlea.
1
Clean
The Baha ® BP100 is the first direct bone conduction
sound processor to include an advanced automatic signal
processing system. It continuously monitors your patient’s acoustic
environments and selects the optimal combination of settings, such as
automatic directional microphones, microphone position compensation
automatic noise reduction, acoustic shock protection, and active feedback
cancellation which provide a cleaner signal. Your patient will benefit from a
system that adjusts to meet their challenging listening needs.
Amplify
People with conductive loss, mixed loss or SSD need
amplification to match their hearing loss profile and the unique
properties of bone conduction. The Baha BP100 is the only sound
processor using dedicated amplification strategies for conductive loss, mixed
loss and SSD, developed specifically for direct bone conduction hearing.
Deliver
The Baha BP100 uses direct bone conduction to send
sounds directly to the cochlea - taking advantage of your
patient’s natural ability to hear by bone vibration. This bypasses the
conductive roadblock and results in an optimal sound quality with less
amplification and no need for uncomfortable earmolds. For SSD, the Baha
BP100 transfers sound directly across the skull from the non-functioning to
the healthy cochlea, thus overcoming the head shadow effect.
Amplification
in challenging
environments
Active adults place high demands on
their hearing solutions. The Baha BP100’s
GORE-TEX membranes cover the
microphone ports and are designed to
reduce the amount of perspiration and dirt
that enters the sound processor. Silicon
sealing and rubber lining are further design
improvements intended to hinder dust
and dirt from entering the case. The
user interface buttons are seamlessly
integrated with the sound processor
housing, providing less openings in the
case and thus reducing the pathways
for moisture ingress. Your patients can
now benefit from amplification even in
challenging environments.
The sparkling truth “The
Worn by thousands of people worldwide, the Cochlear Baha® bone
conduction hearing solution is a well-proven, clinically-tested and
documented hearing care system and the solution of choice for many
people with conductive loss, mixed loss, and SSD.
PROCESSOR ABUTMENT IMPLANT
The Baha bone conduction hearing solution has three
components:
1
2
3
A sound PROCESSOR picks up sound vibrations.
A connecting ABUTMENT transfers the amplified
sound into mechanical vibrations from the Baha
sound processor to the implant.
A small titanium IMPLANT is placed in the
bone behind the ear, where it grows together
(osseointegrates) with the living bone.
This implant transfers the sound vibrations
directly to the cochlea via bone conduction.
Osseointegration has been used for reconstructive
surgery, dental implants and Baha with great
success for more than 30 years.
To receive a Baha, clients will need to be referred to a
surgeon to place the implant. This procedure is typically
performed in an outpatient setting, with no risk of
further hearing loss. Most people can resume normal
activity within a few days. Once the implant has
osseointegrated, the client is fitted with the external
Baha sound processor. Instructions for aftercare include
keeping the implant area clean.
forefront in the science of hearing.
For patients receiving any Cochlear hearing system, our commitment
is that for the rest of your life we will be here to support you.
As your patient’s partner in hearing for life, Cochlear believes it is important to convey
not only the benefits, but also the potential risks associated with a Baha procedure.
Not everyone with hearing loss is a candidate for a Baha. Baha is contraindicated in
patients with inadequate bone quality or quantity to provide stability and support for
the implant, or in patients who will be unable to maintain and clean the skin around
the abutment. In the U.S., use of the implanted fixture is also contraindicated in children
under age 5 years.
All surgical procedures include an element of risk, and it is impossible to guarantee
success. The device may fail to osseointegrate for a number of reasons, including
physiological and surgical issues as well as traumatic impact to the implant site. On rare
occasions the skin around the abutment may become inflamed from a mild infection or
the skin may grow back towards its original thickness. For complete information regarding
the risks and benefits of a Baha procedure, please refer to the instructions for use for the
