3. Surface Regularity<br />

The maximum allowable difference between the subgrade and underside of a 3 m straight edge<br />

shall not exceed 20 mm <strong>for</strong> longitudinal profile and 15 mm <strong>for</strong> cross profile.<br />

4. <strong>Quality</strong> Control Tests<br />

4.1 The <strong>Quality</strong> Control Tests on Earthwork <strong>for</strong> Subgrade (in cutting or filling) and their<br />

frequency, prior to construction, shall be as per Table 301.4 (B).<br />

4.2 The Field <strong>Quality</strong> Control tests during construction shall be as per Table 301.5.<br />

4.3 The <strong>Quality</strong> Checks shall be as per Table 301.6 (B).<br />

C. Do’s and Don’ts<br />

1. Do ensure that borrow area material <strong>for</strong> use in subgrade<br />

satisfies the specified requirements and<br />

design CBR.<br />

2. Do ensure that all layers in sub-grade are<br />

compacted to 100% Proctor Density as per IS: 2720<br />

(Part 7).<br />

1. Guidelines on Blasting Operations<br />

Ensure that-<br />

Do’s Don’ts<br />

1. Do not proceed with sub-grade work until the<br />

foundation <strong>for</strong> sub-grade has been duly approved by<br />

the Engineer.<br />

2. Do not allow construction traffic or other vehicular<br />

traffic over the prepared surface of sub-grade.<br />

(i) all the statutory laws, regulations, rules, etc. pertaining to the acquisition, transport, storage,<br />

handling and use of explosives are followed and in<strong>for</strong>mation describing pertinent blasting<br />

method and procedures is furnished by the Contractor prior to starting the work. Detailed<br />

safety aspects are given in Annex-300.2 of Specifications <strong>for</strong> <strong>Rural</strong> <strong>Roads</strong>.<br />

(ii) the magazine <strong>for</strong> the storage of explosive is built to the designs and specifications of the<br />

Inspection General Explosives, Nagpur and located at the approved site.<br />

(iii) no unauthorized person is admitted into the magazine.<br />

(iv) no match sticks or inflammable material shall be allowed in the magazine.<br />

(v) all explosives are stored in a secure manner and such storage places shall be clearly marked.<br />

(vi) the blasting operations remain in the charge of competent and experienced supervisors and<br />

workmen who are thoroughly acquainted with the details of handling explosives and blasting<br />

operations.<br />

(vii) the blasting is carried out during fixed hours of the day, preferably during the mid-day<br />

luncheon hour or at the close of the work.<br />
