4. A schedule of painting of the posts and signs periodically shall be maintained. Painting the signs<br />

may be undertaken after every two years.<br />

5. Tree branches, plantations, weeds, shrubbery and mud etc. shall not be allowed to obscure the<br />

sign.<br />

B. <strong>Quality</strong> Control Requirements<br />

1. Materials<br />

The material <strong>for</strong> repair/fabrication of signs shall con<strong>for</strong>m to subsection 1701 and IRC:67.<br />

1911, 1912, 1913 & 1915 MAINTENANCE OF MARKINGS & APPURTENANCES<br />

A. Methodology<br />

1. All road markings shall be maintained so as to be clearly visible to the driver. An yearly schedule<br />

of re-painting the markings should be maintained to ensure proper maintenance of the markings.<br />

2. The material <strong>for</strong> maintenance of road markings shall be in con<strong>for</strong>mity with subsection 1702.<br />

3. Repainting and lettering on kilometre and 200-m stones shall be as per guidelines indicated in<br />

IRC:8 & IRC:26. The stones shall be maintained in proper position and kept clean and legible at all<br />

times. Damaged as well as tilted stones shall be fixed, repaired/replaced immediately.<br />

4. Plantation, weeds, shrubbery and mud etc. shall not be allowed to obscure the stones/signs.<br />

5. Iron, wooden or concrete posts <strong>for</strong> road delineators shall be repainted regularly, especially after<br />

the rains to keep them clean and visible. The ground around the delineators, hazard markers,<br />

roadway indicators and object markers should be kept clean by cutting grass/weeds and bushes<br />

etc. periodically to maintain the visibility of the delineators.<br />

6. The material <strong>for</strong> repair/replacement of road delineators, hazard markers, roadway indicators<br />

and object markers shall con<strong>for</strong>m to the guidelines included in IRC:79.<br />

7. All branches of trees extending above the roadway shall be cut or trimmed so as to provide a clear<br />

height of 5 m above the road surface and shoulders.<br />

8. All shrubs, grass and weeds in the roadway land shall be trimmed and debris removed to a suitable<br />

location as directed by Engineer to ensure unobstructed sight distance of adequate length.<br />

9. The parapet walls of culverts, minor bridges and tree trunks shall be cleaned of all scales, dirt or<br />

loose material and applied two coats of white wash using good unslaked lime.
