2. <strong>Quality</strong> Management System<br />

A typical set up of a District Laboratory is given in fig. 2.1.<br />

6.3 Central Laboratory<br />

Tests requiring high level of skills and sophisticated equipment as also <strong>for</strong> the other quality tests will<br />

be carried out at the Central Laboratory under the control of the Chief Engineer or In-charge <strong>Quality</strong><br />

Control, State <strong>Rural</strong> <strong>Roads</strong> Development Agency preferably at the State Headquarters.<br />

Any special or sophisticated tests, <strong>for</strong> which the necessary equipment and expertise are not available<br />

in the Central Laboratory, shall be outsourced, to approved National Accreditation Board <strong>for</strong><br />

Laboratories (NABL) accredited Test houses or Higher Technical (academic) Institutes or Research<br />

Laboratories.<br />

7. SPECIFICATIONS AND CODES OF PRACTICE<br />

The specifications and codes of practice laid down by Ministry of <strong>Rural</strong> Development, Indian <strong>Roads</strong><br />

Congress and Bureau of Indian Standards are required to be followed in construction of rural roads.<br />

The list of IRC Publications and List of MORD and MORTH Publications is given at Appendix – 3 and<br />

4 respectively in <strong>Volume</strong> I and list of Indian Standards in <strong>Volume</strong> II at Appendix-1.<br />

8. LABORATORY AND EQUIPMENT<br />

The equipment requirement <strong>for</strong> quality control tests <strong>for</strong> Field, District and Central Laboratories are<br />

given in Section100 of <strong>Volume</strong> II.<br />
