3. Section-1500<br />

(iv) Water<br />

Water used <strong>for</strong> mixing and curing concrete shall be clean and free from injurious amount of oil,<br />

salt, acid, vegetable matter and shall meet the requirements set out in Section 800 B (IV).<br />

(v) Dowel Bars<br />

Plain mild steel bars 25 mm dia con<strong>for</strong>ming to IS:432 ( Part 1 ) having minimum yield strength 240<br />

N/mm 2 shall be used as dowel bars. These shall be free from oil, dirt, loose rust, scale, irregularities<br />

and burring. Dowel bars shall be positioned at mid depth of the slab within a tolerance of (±) 20<br />

mm.<br />

All bars in a joint shall be within (±) 5 mm in length of bar. Normally 500 mm long and spaced 250<br />

mm c/c or as specified. They shall be parallel to the longitudinal axis of the pavement.<br />

(vi) Premoulded Joint Filler<br />

Bitumen impregnated filler board/premoulded synthetic joint filler board <strong>for</strong> expansion joints<br />

shall be 20mm thick within a tolerance of (+) 1.5 mm and of a firm compressible material in<br />

con<strong>for</strong>mity with the requirements of IS:1838.<br />

(vii) Joint Sealing Compound<br />

Joint sealing compound shall be hot poured sealing compound type having flexibility, resistance<br />

to age hardening and durability and shall con<strong>for</strong>m to IS:1834.<br />

± 20 mm Plain & Rolling Terrain<br />

± 30 mm Hilly Terrain<br />

The tolerance in surface level of cement concrete pavement shall be (+) 5 mm or (-) 6 mm which<br />

may exceed upto (–) 8 mm at 0-300 mm from the edges.<br />
