2. Organization of Activities<br />
The organization of educational and research activities within <strong>CAPEC</strong> and <strong>PROCESS</strong> are<br />
conducted by the faculty members of the two centers together with the researchers and<br />
students associated with them. Figure 2.1 highlights these activities, where it can be noted<br />
that the research results coming out of the six research programs of <strong>CAPEC</strong>-<strong>PROCESS</strong> are<br />
disseminated in education and industry.<br />

The primary research area is process operation and control. Specific<br />
activities are related to:<br />
• First principle modelling and simulation of dynamical systems<br />
related to the chemical and biochemical industry.<br />
• Parameter estimation in dynamical systems.<br />
• Chemical and biochemical plant monitoring and operation.<br />
• Plant wide control.<br />
• Optimal control and state estimation.<br />
• Modelling and estimation for process control.<br />
• Tuning and maintenance of control implementations.<br />
Current projects are related to applications within: Diabatic<br />
distillation; automotive flue gas cleaning; and enzymatic production<br />
of biodiesel.<br />
