From the Music Room
RECORDERS: All students in grades 3, 4, and 5 will be playing the recorder in music class this year. For health
purposes we would appreciate it if each student had access to their own personal recorder. Recorders can be
purchased right here at the school store for $4.50. Students will need to have a recorder by October 1. Recorders
can be stored in the music room. Please write the student's name on the recorder and the case. If you do not have
a case a gallon-sized plastic bag works great. Thanks! Any questions send to Mrs. Deavers at
amy.deavers@fcps.org.
CHORUS: Chorus sign-ups will be available starting Tuesday September 18. GVE chorus is open to students in
grades 3-5 who are motivated, hard-working, and love to sing! ALL chorus forms are due to Mrs. Deavers by
MONDAY OCTOBER 1. Rehearsals begin Wednesday October 3.
From the Art Room
It is time for the Frederick County Volunteer Fire and Rescue Association’s Annual Fire Prevention Week Poster
Contest. Entries due: October 1, 2012. Information handouts are available in Mrs. Carioto's art room.
From the PE Department
Hopefully your child is participating in The Eat Healthy Challenge sponsored by Summers Farm. The Eat Healthy
Challenge has great benefits, like getting your child to try a variety of foods from the different food groups. They also
receive a free ticket to Summers Farm for participating and returning the sheet to Mr. Baer. Summers Farm is also
giving back to schools that participate in the challenge. They will donate one dollar for every adult admission ticket
purchased thru September 28 to October 27 every Friday and Saturday from 6-9:30pm, just mention Green Valley
when purchasing. The donations will go directly to the PE department so we can buy new equipment. The
information above can be found on the back of the challenge sheet. Participate in the challenge and take the whole
family to the Summers Farm. Challenge sheets are due to Mr. Baer by September 14 th .
Thanks!
Coke Rewards Program
Welcome back students and parents to the new school year at Green Valley Elementary. Since the inception in the
Fall of 2010 the Coke Rewards program at Green Valley Elementary School has collected over 19,000 points and
Products (Dasani Water, PowerAde, Sprite, Coca-Cola, Minute Maid) enter the codes online and redeem the points
for school. In the foyer outside the front office we have a bin to collect the codes. If you have any questions please
email John Harris at harrisandgirls@gmail.com.
