NAAHP NATIONAL MEETING
Summer 2012
The MSA Program was one of approximately 80 professional schools, associations
and companies that participated as exhibitors at the National Association of
Advisors for the Health Professions (NAAHP) Meeting in Baltimore, Maryland on
June 20-24, 2012. NAAHP is an organization of over 900 health professions
advisors at colleges and universities throughout the United States.
The theme of this year’s conference was drawn from its location, Advisors as Harbor
Masters: Guiding Our Students Through the Challenging Waters of Healthcare Education.
Inner Harbor Baltimore bustled with activity despite near 100 degree
temperatures throughout the conference. The exhibit hall also buzzed with activity,
in an atmosphere that felt like a reunion of old friends and colleagues. We saw
many familiar faces, and made some new connections too.
We would like to thank the NAAHP advisors for their enthusiasm and support of
the MSA Program at Case Western Reserve University. Please continue to discuss
the anesthesiologist assistant profession with your students, and suggest that they
contact us. Our application deadline for this year is October 1, 2012, and we are
now accepting applications for our Cleveland, Houston, and Washington D.C.
locations.
While in Baltimore, Laura Bishop had a chance to visit our new program in D.C.
Here are some pictures she took.
Message from the Houston Student Chiefs
Kathy Duong and Michael Pippin
The privilege to represent the Houston MSA Program as
student chiefs is a great honor, providing us the ability to
directly contribute to the program and the profession.
Just a few weeks ago, the new incoming class began their
first few weeks of clinicals. Not only are they all
exhibiting tremendous potential and dedication, but they
are also demonstrating professionalism, a vital key to
success for first-year students.
Page 4
As part of the second Houston MSA class, we have
observed the AA profession gradually expand
throughout Texas. Numerous clinical rotation sites have
been initiated such as a pediatrics rotation at Children’s
Medical Center of Dallas and an ambulatory rotation at
Grace Medical Center in Lubbock. With each rotation,
our classmates have done a great job of representing and
educating other medical professionals about Case and
the AA profession. We are excited to be part of such a
rapidly growing program.
Students in Houston will soon have access to more
advanced resources. Within the next few months, the
students will have a new simulation lab, student lounge,
classroom, and program office.
We look forward to seeing new opportunities arise
throughout the year! Best of luck to the first years as
they endeavor through didactics and clinicals and to the
second years as they begin their new specialty rotations!
