A Pollinator Day Celebration recently highlighted<br />

the critical role of pollination in healthy and productive<br />

ecosystems.The SWCD held this event in partnership with Sherburne<br />

County History Center, The U.S. Postal Service, USDA,<br />

and Co-Evolution Institute to celebrate National Pollinator Week.<br />

The event featured the unveiling of a Pollinator Garden (pictured<br />

above) installed at the History Centers interactive trail system.<br />

A two-year water quality monitoring<br />

project, the Briggs Lake Chain - Phosphorous Mass Balance<br />

Study, was recently completed by the SWCD and the Briggs<br />

Lake Chain Association.<br />

The SWCD has installed 10 projects<br />

on six lakes through the Shoreland Buffer and Revegetation<br />

Demonstration Project.<br />

Future Projects<br />

Prairie restoration project: The SWCD plans to<br />

restore native prairie on 20 acres surrounding the new<br />

Sherburne County Public Works building.<br />

Lake Julia erosion control project: Stormwater<br />

runoff best management projects will be installed on<br />

a high-priority soil erosion and water quality problem<br />

site on Lake Julia.<br />

TMDL Study: The SWCD has prepared an<br />

application for a TMDL Study with MPCA on<br />

selected reaches of the Elk River and Mayhew<br />

Creek, and is partnering with Sherburne and<br />

Benton Counties, Benton SWCD and the Elk<br />

River <strong>Water</strong>shed Joint Powers Board for outreach,<br />

education and projects in the Elk River <strong>Water</strong>shed.<br />
