Troubleshooting<br />

This chapter provides simple troubleshooting procedures for some of the more<br />

common problems that the <strong>9560</strong> may experience.<br />

Troubleshooting Checklist<br />

Use the following tables to diagnose and correct minor problems with the <strong>9560</strong>.<br />

Reader Does Not Read Bar Code...<br />

Possible Causes Try This<br />

Faulty scanner. Read bar code with another scanner.<br />

Scanner does not read that density of bar code. Check scanner manual specifications for maximum<br />

density of bar code read.<br />

Reader does not accept that type of bar code. Check specifications for bar codes (see Appendix A).<br />

Check configuration (see Chapters 6 and 7).<br />

Poor bar code print quality. Scan another bar code of known good quality.<br />

Poor scanning technique. Review scanning procedures (see Chapter 4).<br />

Magnetic card reader attempted to read<br />

alphanumeric data.<br />

Reader Does Not Communicate With Host...<br />

Possible Causes Try This<br />

Input only numeric data. The magnetic card reader<br />

only accepts numeric data. This is the ANSI standard<br />

for Track 2.<br />

Not configured properly. Check configuration (see Chapters 6 and 7).<br />

Faulty or incorrect cabling. Check that cable ends are securely fastened to the<br />

correct ports, then try again.<br />

Check that cable meets system requirements (see<br />

Chapter 2).<br />

Check that cable was made properly; look for opens,<br />

shorts, loose wires.<br />
