1.1 Materials.
Chapter 1
General Technical Specification
The term “Materials” shall mean all materials, goods and articles of every kind
whether raw, processed or manufactured and equipment and plant of every kind to
be supplied by the Contractor for incorporation in the works.
All materials shall be new and of the kinds and qualities described in the contract
and shall be at least equal to approved samples.
Materials shall be transported, handled and stored in such a manner as to prevent
deterioration, damage or contamination failing which such damaged materials will
be rejected and shall not be used on any part of the works under this contract.
1.2 Samples and tests of materials.
The Contractor shall submit samples of such materials as may be required by the
Engineer and shall carry out the specified tests directed by the Engineer at the site,
at the supplier’s premises or at a laboratory approved by the Engineer.
Samples shall be submitted and tests shall be carried out sufficiently early to enable
further samples to be submitted and tested if required by the Engineer.
The Contractor shall give the Engineer minimum fifteen days notice in writing of
the date on which any of the materials will be ready for testing or inspection at the
supplier’s premises or at a laboratory approved by the Engineer. The Engineer or
his nominee shall attend the test at the appointed place within fifteen days of the
said date on which the materials are expected to be ready for testing or inspection
according to the Contractor, failing which the test may proceed in his absence
unless instructed by the Engineer to carry out such a test on a mutually agreed upon
date in his presence. The Contractor shall in any case submit to the Engineer within
seven days of every test such number of certified copies (not exceeding six) of the
test readings as the Engineer may require.
Approval by the Engineer for placing orders for materials or for samples or tests
shall not prejudice any of the Engineer’s powers under the Contract particularly
under the provisions of General Conditions of Contract.
The provisions of this clause shall also apply to materials supplied under any
nominated sub-contract.
