Stuffing Boxes:
Stuffing boxes at driving end and non-driving end shall be of such design that they
can be packed, without removing any part, other than the gland and lantern ring. An
axially split glass should be used to facilitate changing the gland packing. Sufficient
space shall be available maintenance purposes.
Air Release Valves:
Pump shall be provided with arrangement of valve to vent air which may get
accumulated in the pump.
Sealing:
Self sealing water connections should be provided.
Flanges:
Flanges shall be machined flat, with flange faces vertical and at right angles to the
pump mounting surface. Flange drilling shall conform to IS 1538, with suction and
discharge connections be flanged and drilled to the specified flange table.
Compassion flanges will be drilled to the same table Cast iron flanges shall be flat
faced and be full/spot faced on the back side.
Bearings:
Bearings shall be either grease or oil lubricated and should absorb the radial and
axial thrush under all operating conditions. Anti-friction bearing shall be of standard
type and shall be selected to give 20,000 hours continuous operation at rated
operating conditions. The rise in bearing oil/grease temperature with continuous
running of the pump shall be within the allowable limits which shall not exceed
20C for grease and 30ÉC for oil lubricated bearings above ambient temperature.
Cooling arrangements shall be provided if required: bush bearings will not be
acceptable.
