15.22 Pumping Machineries.
Applicability:
The following clauses shall specify general mechanical requirements and standards
of workmanship for equipments and installations and must be read in conjunction
with the particular requirements of the Contract. These general specification
clauses shall apply where appropriate except where redefined in the particular
requirement sections of the Specification which shall be applicable
Materials:
All materials incorporated in the Works shall be the most suitable for the duty
concerned and shall be new and of first class commercial quality, free from
imperfection, and selected for long life and minimum maintenance.
Design and Construction:
The plant design, workmanship and general finish shall be of sound quality in
accordance with good engineering practice. Design shall be robust and rated for
continuous service, at the specified duties, under the prevailing operational site
conditions.
The general design of mechanical and electrical Plant, particularly that of wearing
parts, shall be governed by the need for long periods of service without frequent
attention but shall afford ready access for any necessary maintenance.
Similarly items of Plant and their component parts shall be completely
interchangeable. Spare parts shall be manufactured from the same material
specification as the originals.
No welding, filling or plugging of defective work will be permitted without the
written permission of the Engineer. All welding spatter shall be removed.
It shall be the responsibility of the contractor to ensure that all the equipment
selected is fully compatible mechanically, electrically and also with respect to
instrumentation, control and automation.
