DVX-1000 DVD Home Cinema System NEW PRODUCT BULLETIN
Experience true surround sound with extraordinarily good sound quality.
The DVX-1000 is unlike any other two-speaker home cinema system. Yamaha developed a host of new technologies
that work together to produce actual surround sound from only two speakers. The effect is quite amazing, and is
even more pleasurable because the sound quality is so excellent. Speakers, subwoofer, DVD player and amplifier are
all designed and built to a standard of quality well beyond conventional systems. Yet they are surprisingly compact.
Presenting the DVX-1000 — an entirely new way to enjoy home cinema.
7-Channel Virtual Surround Sound
Effect — from Two Speakers!
When you listen to the DVX-1000 you can
actually identify sounds located around and
behind you. The experience is completely
different from other “virtual surround”
systems, which project most of the sound in
front of you, with only a weak surround
effect to the sides and none to the rear.
When listening to 5 or 7-channel
sources from the DVX-1000, you will hear
clear dialogue and other sounds from the
7.1-Channel Full Surround System
In traditional home cinema systems each channel has
its own speaker.
front, specific sounds from the other
channels to the sides and rear, and smooth
sound movement around you. Amazingly,
this is achieved from only two speakers;
and with the supplied subwoofer you enjoy
full 5.1 or 7.1-channel dynamic sound.
Only Yamaha, with our huge
acoustic database and extensive
experience in sound simulation technology,
has been able to realise this level of
surround sound performance from two
speakers. In all, seven new technologies
Front 2-Channel Virtual Surround System
In conventional virtual surround systems, the surround
sound is diffuse and in heard mainly from the front.
2/4
are used in the system, including the
world’s first 24kHz HRTF (Head Related
Transfer Function) processing.
All of the system components are
compact and stylish, and of course there is
no need for positioning and connecting
centre and rear speakers, making system
setup an easy matter. Furthermore, because
the surround effects are not produced by
wall reflections, the DVX-1000 works well
in any room environment, large or small,
with or without four flat walls.
AIR SURROUND XTREME
Yamaha’s exclusive AIR SURROUND XTREME achieves surround sound
with clarity and imaging unlike any other two-speaker system. You
hear clear dialogue from the front, with distinctly separate surround
sounds and smooth sound movement around the sound field.
DVX-1000 DVD Home Cinema System NEW PRODUCT BULLETIN
Two Surround Modes and
Two Listening Zones
The DVX-1000 gives you a choice of two
surround modes: Movie and Music. The
Movie mode ensures that dialogue is clear,
while emphasising the rear channels for full
enjoyment of surround effects and smooth
sound movement that are impossible with
conventional systems. Selecting Music
provides full-frequency clarity and high
quality surround sound for enhanced music
enjoyment. You can also select the listening
zone: Narrow for personal use and Wide
when several people are listening.
Superior Sound Quality
Complementing its amazing
surround sound capabilities, the DVX-1000
provides a level of audio quality generally
heard only from much more expensive
systems. Yamaha has put its high-end
component expertise to good use, as the
DVD player, 90W x 2 amplifier, speakers and
subwoofer are all extremely high
performance units.
The amplifier uses high quality parts
throughout, including a large transformer,
custom-made capacitors and large heat
sinks. The analogue and digital sections are
separated and the digital circuitry is
shielded, to prevent noise interference. In
addition, the signal flow between the amp
and centre unit is digital rather than
analogue.
The speakers have an aluminium
cabinet for excellent rigidity, but the sound
produced is soft. Their unique curvature
not only looks elegant, it serves to dampen
unwanted vibrations. The 11cm woofer can
handle up to 100W of sound power, while
the 2.5cm soft dome tweeter uses an
edgewise-wound voice coil for maximum
efficiency, delivering richly detailed highs.
The network employs a large coil wound
with 1mm diameter wire for high
performance. A waveguide improves sound
dispersion characteristics.
1080p-Compatible HDMI,
Plus DCDi Processing
HDMI output allows the DVD player to
transfer digital video and audio signals
directly to an HDMI equipped
monitor instead of having to
convert them to analogue.
1080p video signals can be
output, providing the most
detailed high definition
picture quality currently available.
Faroudja DCDi Processing ensures
3/4
that images are smooth and natural,
without staircasing or jaggies.
Play DVDs, CDs and More
You can listen to ordinary DVDs and
CDs and also recordable discs with MP3,
JPEG, WMA and DivX (Ultra) files. A stereo
mini jack lets you connect
portable audio devices and
there’s also a dedicated
USB terminal.
Advanced YST II Subwoofer
for Powerful Bass Response
Advanced Yamaha Active Servo Technology
II (Advanced YST II) is a unique system in
which the speaker and amplifier work
together to cancel out impedance so the
speaker unit has a perfectly linear motion.
Advanced YST II helps to ensure the
highest levels of sound pressure and
overall performance.
Audio
Direct
Audio Direct Mode
Selecting the Audio Direct mode
cuts the video circuitry out of the signal
path, so there is no chance of it affecting
the sound quality. The front panel
illumination is also turned off to prevent
noise interference from the LCD.

AIR SURROUND XTREME
How does the DVX-1000 achieve true
surround sound without surround
speakers? The answer is AIR SURROUND
XTREME, which is made possible by seven
new Yamaha-developed technologies. The
most notable is the world’s first 24kHz
HRTF (Head Related Transfer Function)
measurement technique. HRTF describes the
various factors that affect how we locate
the sounds that enter our head through the
left and right ears, and is thus a vital factor
in achieving two-speaker surround
sound. Conventional HRTF
measurements could be done up to
8kHz, but Yamaha has increased its
capability to 24kHz, enabling much
more accurate sound imaging. The
other technologies enhance the
clarity of the surround sound and
provide several selectable modes that
ensure optimum enjoyment from any
listening position.
