The Rol<strong>of</strong>f Beny Photography Scholarships have been made possible through the generous donation <strong>of</strong> the Rol<strong>of</strong>f<br />
Beny Foundation in Toronto. Wilfred Roy Beny was born in Medicine Hat, Alberta, in 1924. He later adopted the name<br />
Rol<strong>of</strong>f, his mother's maiden name, and by 1950 was known as Rol<strong>of</strong>f Beny. After a successful career as a painter and<br />
printmaker, in the 1950’s Rol<strong>of</strong>f Beny embarked on a new career as a photographer and designer <strong>of</strong> sumptuous travel<br />
<strong>photography</strong> books. These books were critically acclaimed and hugely successful. Rol<strong>of</strong>f Beny died in Rome in 1984.<br />
Eligibility<br />
Two $5825 <strong>scholarship</strong>s will be awarded for the 2013-2014 academic year. These <strong>scholarship</strong>s will allow two <strong>of</strong><br />
NSCAD’s best <strong>photography</strong> students to carry out ambitious <strong>of</strong>f-campus projects that might otherwise be beyond<br />
their financial means.<br />
• Applicants must be Photography students with superior merit in their studies at NSCAD.<br />
• Undergraduate students who have completed 60 credits, including 6 credits <strong>of</strong> 3000 level Photography<br />
courses and 6 credits <strong>of</strong> <strong>Art</strong> History courses, are eligible to apply.<br />
• Scholarship recipients must be registered for and maintain full-time status (i.e. minimum 9 credits) in the<br />
Summer 2013, Fall 2013 or Winter 2013 semester.<br />
• Scholarship recipients will register for <strong>of</strong>f-campus courses in the semester <strong>of</strong> their award (you MUST<br />
confirm with Student Services by April 2013 which semester you will accept the award)<br />
• Scholarship recipients will be required to mount an exhibition <strong>of</strong> their completed work in the Anna<br />
Criteria<br />
Leonowens Gallery and provide slide documentation <strong>of</strong> their project to the NSCAD Non-Print Collection.<br />
Awarded on a competitive basis to <strong>photography</strong> students who demonstrate exceptional merit as shown in their:<br />
• NSCAD transcript and academic file (provided by Student Services)<br />
• 15 digital images slides <strong>of</strong> recent work on a Mac compatible CD (include an image list)<br />
• Off-Campus Study or Exchange Project proposal (please attach to your application)<br />
• Draft budget (please attach to your application)<br />
