The Roloff Beny Photography Scholarships have been made possible through the generous donation of the Roloff
Beny Foundation in Toronto. Wilfred Roy Beny was born in Medicine Hat, Alberta, in 1924. He later adopted the name
Roloff, his mother's maiden name, and by 1950 was known as Roloff Beny. After a successful career as a painter and
printmaker, in the 1950’s Roloff Beny embarked on a new career as a photographer and designer of sumptuous travel
photography books. These books were critically acclaimed and hugely successful. Roloff Beny died in Rome in 1984.
Eligibility
Two $5825 scholarships will be awarded for the 2013-2014 academic year. These scholarships will allow two of
NSCAD’s best photography students to carry out ambitious off-campus projects that might otherwise be beyond
their financial means.
• Applicants must be Photography students with superior merit in their studies at NSCAD.
• Undergraduate students who have completed 60 credits, including 6 credits of 3000 level Photography
courses and 6 credits of Art History courses, are eligible to apply.
• Scholarship recipients must be registered for and maintain full-time status (i.e. minimum 9 credits) in the
Summer 2013, Fall 2013 or Winter 2013 semester.
• Scholarship recipients will register for off-campus courses in the semester of their award (you MUST
confirm with Student Services by April 2013 which semester you will accept the award)
• Scholarship recipients will be required to mount an exhibition of their completed work in the Anna
Criteria
Leonowens Gallery and provide slide documentation of their project to the NSCAD Non-Print Collection.
Awarded on a competitive basis to photography students who demonstrate exceptional merit as shown in their:
• NSCAD transcript and academic file (provided by Student Services)
• 15 digital images slides of recent work on a Mac compatible CD (include an image list)
• Off-Campus Study or Exchange Project proposal (please attach to your application)
• Draft budget (please attach to your application)

I understand that the attached budget will be reviewed by the Scholarship Awards Committee and Photography
Faculty Committees and that any award will be based on my actual need as assessed from this budget. I agree to
return to the University any award I may receive if I do not carry out the travel for which the award was

Faculty Committee will be reviewing my transcript and academic file and may consult faculty. I also
