Supplementary Munitions
Description: This event will give an immediate ammunition bonus. The
amount of new Ammunitions produced will be random.
Historical notes: The deprivations of the war were manifold and both
soldiers at the front and people in the homeland considerably suffered
from them. Hoping for a soon victory and their men and sons returning from
the front, mothers and women worked even harder in the ammunition
industry.
Advancement of Combat Doctrines
Description: This event will give a valuable bonus on the researches of
Combat Doctrines.
Historical notes: Based on his 1915 combat experiences, French army
captain Andre Laffargue summarized offensive tactics in his pamphlet “The
attack in Trench Warfare”. Laffargue realized the importance of deep
penetrations and therefore advocated sudden in-depth attacks that would
disrupt the enemy, keep him off balance, and prevent him from organizing
effective responses. Although his pamphlet was published by the French
army, it was almost ignored by both the French and the British. When a
copy was captured by the Germans in 1916, it was immediately translated
and issued to units. Based on the principles published by Laffargue, the
German captain Rohr developed the Sturmtruppen units, which were then
adopted by the Entente forces for their own Assault Troops.
Conditions: automatic.
Difficulty: automatic.
Enter in play: Events phase, any turn.
Pioneers
Description: This event will give you a bonus in crossing of large rivers.
Historical notes: In World War I the combat service support role of Pioneer
or Combat Engineer was responsible for tasks such as fortification, bridge
and road construction or destruction, laying or clearing landmines and
general engineering tasks under fire. Usually, the pioneer is also trained as
an infantry rifleman, and combat engineer elements often have a
secondary role fighting as formed infantry. At the end of World War I, the
standoff in the Western Front caused the Imperial German Army to gather
experienced and particularly skilled soldiers to form Assault Teams which
would breakthrough the Allied trenches. With enhanced training and
special weapons such as flamethrowers, these squads obtained some
success, but too late to change the outcome of the war.
Conditions: automatic.
Difficulty: die roll 3+.
Enter in play: Military phase, any turn.
Option #1: (historical choice) Pioneers scout the territory – The nation
playing this event will benefit from a +2 bonus die roll modifier for all large
river crossing tests (beware that this modifier can be modded)!
Notes: once successfully in play, the event is discarded and can later be
reshuffled in the deck.
Mutinies
Description: This event will generate desertions and mutinies in one of the
following countries: Austria, Russia or Turkey.
Historical notes: The deprivations of the war were manifold and both
soldiers at the front and people in the homeland considerably suffered from
them. As the pitcher goes often to the well, but is broken at last, some
people finally decided to put this suffering to an end.
